NAD! - Laney Cub 8 combo.

Loving this little wonder of an amp!

Got it in a trade for my Epiphone 339, which is no more. Man this is a fun little amp. The previous owner replaced the tubes with EHX, so it's a single 6V6 and a 12AX7, and also replaced the stock 8 inch Celestion with an italian Jensen I know nothing about. Apparently the circuit is shamelessly inspired by a Fender Champ, with the addition of a tone knob.

I do know this: It sounds SWEET! It's loving my Strat and Telecaster. Doesn't sound that jangly and sparkly, it's very thick, boxy and punchy in the mids. Crank it and you get some raunchy, raw overdriven sounds.

I couldn't be less of a vintage-ist and I'm loving it. It's pure fun to crank it and let your fingers decide how loud you want things to be. Haven't tried an OD in front yet but that's gotta be fun as hell.

Also, did I mention it's tiny?

I took this picture right after I did the trade for it:

Nice score, it would be amazing to bring that to a gig. How much volume can you get out of it?

Oh man, the clean tone is righteous. I can see myself gigging it if I don't need to bring a Metal meltdown in the house.

How loud you say? Being an 8 inch speaker, it's totally inconceivable for any band setting IMO unless it's an acoustic gig in a café of sorts or something. I bet it kills miced up though.

Still, with the volume past 12 o'clock at home you have to scream on top of it to have a conversation. You can turn it down but it loses juice, compression and harmonics, it just sounds lame. You basically want it at least on 5 all the time. Past 2 o'clock and you'll push the speaker hard, it distorts in a very raw way. Reminds me of Link Wray's Rumble a bit. Nasty and gorgeous. I can't replicate that with 12 inchers.

I too am going through a tiny amp stage
I tried the VHT Special 6 Ultra
It sounded great
If I cranked it full up on the clean channel it had a lush bring to it
Pulling back on the guitar volume cleaned right up
And while loud you would have to speak up to get over it
Yelling wasnt necessary

With the Ultra gain cranked and the volume up
It compresses so much a loud speaking voice was good enough

I would have got it but
I want to try one with a few more features
Namely the cabinet emulated line out

And why can't those small amps have reverb
At least some digital if not a spring tank

So yours is just a bare bones single volume single tone?
No loop
No line out

Simple uncomplicated
Plug and go
