NAD Laney Ironheart Studio!!! (late post)

Okay people. Don't get a Kemper. Don't get an Axe-FX. Don't get a Helix. You need a light, portable, rack mount head? Get a Laney Ironheart Studio! 15 watts of all tube awesomeness. Super versatile with a unique gain voicing. I actually found a great blues tone on accident haha. Only con was it's missing the gig bag for some reason. All in all, if you've been thinking about getting one and haven't, just do it already! It can hold its own against a JVM...nuff said.

With a v30 cab, you wouldn't need anything else. Great amp

I will be getting a Friedman mini Dirty Shirley soon, and I was thinking that the Ironheart studio might be a good complement to it. I didn't know it sounds Marshally or could cover what is called hot-rodded Marshall grounds, thought it was more Mesa type distortion. Nor would I have imagined it could do blues, what I heard on utube was a little sterile cleaner tones. The hi-gain tones I heard were awesome. Congrats.
Edit: I truely wonder where the F. I got the idea that Iron Heart has Mesa gain.

Thanks! I was just messing with the knobs and stumbled upon a killer blues tone. I was shocked

I think that they're great little amps, but it doesn't have all those fancy schmancy effects and the ability to switch them with the push off one button. So I will keep my Helix. ;)

Re: NAD Laney Ironheart Studio!!! (late post)

What is the voicing on those like? Are they 5150-ish? Mesa-ish? Marshall-ish?

Marshally and 5150 ish. Somewhere between the gain channel on the orange voicing on a jvm and a 5150. It's a lot tighter than a 5150, but not as tight as a jvm. Not at all mesaish

Amps it's similar to:
5150/6505 (not that relaunch fender mark 3 crap)
Marshall JVM
Soldano SLO
Marshall JCM 900 or 2000

It's sort of a cross between all of these. Listen to the killswitch engage albums "disarm the descent" and "incarnate" to get an idea of the gain structure. Keep in mind that the eq options are very flexible and that killswitch used an od808 with the drive knob up to like 1 oclock, so theres a bit of low end fizz on the records that isn't present on the amp unless you crank the pre boost past 6.

I thought that album was a Fuchs Viper.

Either way, I love the tone on that record, and if the Ironheart is anything like it, it must be a really cool amp! Especially if its like a tighter 5150 with some Marshall-ish bite to it!

Congrats man! I had one around 4-5 years ago when they hit the market. Great sounding piece of gear, just didn't have enough power in the band context at the time for me. I have a Helix LT now ;)

Thats basically what it is, but with a touch of unique flavor

15 watts all tube wasnt enough?

Re: NAD Laney Ironheart Studio!!! (late post)

Cool. I am seriously considering the 60-watt version, the 2x12. Does yours have the variwatt control? If so, how does it significantly affect the tone?

Re: NAD Laney Ironheart Studio!!! (late post)

No variwatt control, but theres two separate inputs, one for 15 watts, one for <1 watts. I prefer the full 15 even for bedroom use personally. The <1 is just missing something imo. I'd stay away from anything with laney drivers and not v30s. Laney drivers are famous for turning literally anything into a fizzy pos very quickly.

Laney drivers? Laney uses Celestion spreakers.
