NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

I've been looking into this amp today and have a couple questions. Congrats on a great amp, btw!

What kind of relays doee this amp have? Latching or non-latching? I as because I would eventually want to intigrate it with a TC Electronic G System.

Also, how loud can it get? Will it keep up in a band situation? I've read mixed opinions on this one.

I haven't actually checked the relays but i imagine they're latching. I can look for you tomorrow if you like? It dis have a din footswitch connector though so you would need to make/buy a custom cable.

It cab get pretty Damn loud. I would say out could easily hang with a drummer in a practice room. I think this depends a lot on the efficiency of your speakers though. Mine are 102db

Thanks for the reply.

I did run across this video on YouTube where the guy doing the talking said, at about the 6 minute mark, that if a guy wants more power, he can just run the the DI out with the emulation turned off into a regular old solid state poweramp. Apparently it works fine because the power tubes are included in the circuit for the DI out. The more I learn about this amp, the more I want one. A little forewarning, he cusses like a sailor, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCarWDUJ9Nc

And I've searched, downloaded the manual, & what not, and I can't find the info I'm looking for about the relays. I did find the schematic for the footswitch though, so making a cable shouldn't be all that difficult. If you can't find anything in your stuff, it's not the end of the world, because in my searching later today I ran across a post or two on other forums where people were using a Voodoo Lab Midi Switchers to control their IRTs, which has the DIN plug built in. I'm guessing the IRT Studio has Latching Relays because after my research I've learned that with the clean and lead switches both off, it goes to the rhythm channel, IIRC. So if that's the case, that feature would only work with latching relays. I probably will end up with the Voodoo Lab Switcher regardless, because of the simplicity of just using the same 5 pin din cord.

To the OP, does your IRT studio pop when you turn it off. My does that, hope it's normal. Thanks!

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

You mena the pop in the speaker? yes thats normal. It happens with all amps without standby switches.

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

Thanks for the info. I have a Laney Cub12r, also without standby switch. I zero the volume first before switching it off, no pop. How do you turn off the Ironheart? Thanks!

This is a great amp indeed. Tried it via headphones last night and I was blown away. My cab will be arriving on Sunday, an Orange cab PPC212 OB. I'm very excited!

Pretty much the same unless its on a low volume then the pop is only quiet anyway.

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

Hello IRT studio owners. My unit, on clean channel with zero volume, lets the signal pass through. What I mean is that there's still a sound coming from the amp even if the volume is on zero, not loud but audible. I plugged the IRT using direct out to my Zoom R8 interface and indeed there's a sound passing through, as shown in the monitor. Lead and Rhythm channels do not do this. Kindly check yours and keep me posted if your unit behaves the same way too. I am asking for replacement as I post. Thanks guys!

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

This is normal with a lot of amps.

My MKII does this on the lead channel.

I'm not sure about the laney but I have it all boxed up to sell now so I cant check,

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

Thanks for the info man. Got my replacement already, this unit sounds better compared to the previous one. Why are you selling yours btw?

Re: NAD: Laney Ironheart Studio

I just don't need it anymore. I only got it because I was moving in with my partners parents whilst saving for a mortgage.

Now that the Mortgage is nearly finalised I'm moving it along and going back to the SLO and MKIIC+
