NAD . . . Made in the UK.

Re: NAD . . . Made in the UK.

Marshal mid-range crunch by the truck load.
Healthy amount of ''classic'' 60's era Marshall tones + 70's era Hot Rodded Plexi tones.
P H A T T low end !

******, thats exactly what I was looking for too. haha. Someday...

Have you tried it through your other cabs?

Re: NAD . . . Made in the UK.

So what did you discover?

I discovered (confirmed) that none of my amp/cab combinations sound right in the new band. Need a total overhaul. Gah. Tempted to just order a VM off Reverb, I should probably try it at some point though. Perhaps I'll contact the seller that bailed and see if I can come play his amp just to get a feel for it. I think I earned it with him being a tease like that. haha

Re: NAD . . . Made in the UK.

Liberated this from the (amp section of the) LP Forums . . .

. . . . '' I have KT66 loaded in a Peters, KT88 loaded in a Carol-Ann and KT77 in a Simul-Class Boogie. All of the KTs have this big, fat low end, smooth but detailed highs and a gentle compression that are addictive. I love KTs! ''

I looks like a big part about me liking the Vintage Modern sooo much is to do with the KT66 power vales thats in it

Re: NAD . . . Made in the UK.

Sometimes people complain about KT-66s being a little loose in the bottom end. This is often in JTM45s though, and that is affected by the tube rectifier, low filtering*, and bass amp value coupling caps. I have found that the fat bottle 6CA7 is tighter but still has ample bottom end, and makes a good alternative in a 45. The fat bottle 6CA7 has an over all EL34 type sound, though, which may or may not be wanted.

* The VM is based in part on the early 100 watt JTM45/100 plexis and appears to have similar filtering to those.

Re: NAD . . . Made in the UK.

The KT-66 was originally developed by the M&O valve company in Britain during the 1930s as a way around RCA's patents for the 6L6 beam tetrode.

The other KTs (kinkless tetrode) were developed in Britain (GEC) during the 1950s for similar reasons:

KT-77 for the Holland (Philips corporately associated with Mullard) developed EL34
KT-88 for the USA developed 6550
