NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Sounds like a Boss Metal Zone run into PA.

Ha ha ha that actually WAS my first amp.... But it sounded better than these examples....

I'm going with the pignose...

And the winner is... *drumroll please*:

Nobody!

Alright, the mystery amp is... *drumroll again, please*:

Positive Grid's BIAS!

Positive Grid BIAS

What is it? (some of you luddites might be asking)

Well, it's a VST plugin... it is... an amp modeler!

:omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg:

Yes, yours truly (the tube head) has been wanking on an amp modeler. I grabbed a few stock "patches" (if you will) and hit
the record button in my DAW. This is the first amp modeler I've been impressed with; it's still not perfect but pretty damn good.

You can really tweak this sucker; it's very amp-head friendly. You can change "tubes", tweak the "OT"... you can even "tone match" an amp.

(Oh and BTW, I realize it's not a tube amp, but I guarantee you can get better tones out of it than any clips whizzy, Edgecrusher, Securb, or 80's Metal
have posted here. :naughty: )

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Yeah you fooled all of us. It sounded so realistic.

I was pretty sure I'd have you fooled but yep, that's my usual take on modelers. This one has potential, though.

The Luddites were 19th-century English textile artisans who protested against newly developed labour-replacing machinery from 1811 to 1817.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

digital, tube, solid state, whatever.
That sounds more like a broken television white noise in a cave.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

I was going to go a couple of ways based on the sound but I am going to have to go with ...is it an Ibanez Tone Blaster.

HEY. Don't diss my IBZ10. I have the older version, and used it for almost 12 years before I finally upgraded to my Bugera V22 head. Yes, sad, I know. I bet if it had have been the Ibanez, I would have been able to call it.

I will say one thing for the Ibanez, I used to live a very... "Punk" lifestyle, and with all the abuse that amp has taken, it still works just as well as it did when my father bought it for me when he got me my first guitar for my birthday. The pawn shop guy threw it in for free with a Squire strat in fiesta red.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

I knew it wasn't a Gorilla. The Gorilla I had was capable of better tones.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Fun thread. Make more of these :)

Absolutely. I've yet to do my metal clip. My theory with modelers is they do best with super-high gain because there's no dynamics going on.

So yeah I'll be doing more... and it's been a hoot watching Bruce and his poseur-posse try to diss a modeling amp.

The fact that I've always hated modelers (but now one has turned my head and I'm actually interested) was the main point with this thread. I've been tweaking this thing non-stop (well, the wife & I went to Outback for dinner last night) since I've had it! :omg:

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Alright... Here's Megadeth's Holy Wars (The Punishment Due).

(Who says you can't do metal in your mid-40s? I think I broke my wrist. :lmao: )

LLL - BIAS Holy Wars

And some old-school metal noodling (Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots):

LLL - BIAS Iommi 1

The pickup is a Gibson '57 Classic. Yes, a PAF.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

I've heard modellers sound good on a variety of sounds. Just depends on the particular modeller and model involved.

My theory with modelers is they do best with super-high gain because there's no dynamics going on.

Re: NAD! (Mystery Amp)

Now to be fair, nobody was dissing the modeling. There were other, more glaring issues.

You're right, and this thread really helped proved things.

It proved that the sarcastic & mocking quippings of a handful of trolling poseurs who talk a big game online...
...but never post clips of their work... should be, at best, taken with a healthy dose of laughter. :lmao:

Because in reality, they have nothing to back up their talk. Zero zilch nada

But the real issue is they simply need to practice guitar more instead of playing pretend online.

(That, and the fact that Drex apparently isn't feeding their trolling needs)

Welcome to Mullet City. :bigthumb:
