super rad stuff

so yea. i got this off a co-worker in pieces for $180 because he didn't want to look for the screws to put it together. i cleaned it up and got it back together, and it works pretty well. only complaint is the pots could be in better shape, but i'm not complaining for the price i got it for! i believe it's a 90s re-ish of some sort, when korg started making them, one of the ones without top-boost. if anybody could point me in the right direction for finding out some more info on this amp, i'd really appreciate it.

Re: NAD: vox AC15

it's got tremolo and reverb, it's a 7 knob model. the speaker is a weber copy of a greenback, but it's not labeled. i'll have to ask my co-worker what it is again lol.

Re: NAD: vox AC15

sweet! how are you liking it?

i like it a bunch. of course, i can't get nearly as nice a high gain tone out of it, but the cleans and break-up are amazing. used it to play live last tuesday and it sounded great! along with my ever-evolving pedal board, i'm getting some pretty sweet tones.

the biggest thing is that i actually get some nice articulation out of the low strings with it, as opposed to the VK which has this sort of flat sound in the attack on the low strings. it wasn't as noticeable with an OD in front, but it was definitely still there. as far as downsides go; there's no midrange control, the volume/gain knobs are really scratchy and probably need to be replaced, and i'm still missing a few screws. but like i said, hardly anything to complain about @ this price;)

Re: NAD: vox AC15

No top boost? I thought that was the whole point of having a Vox AC model! Just kidding. I kinda like the smoothness of the normal channel, and if you wanna get top-boosty just get a rangemaster clone.
Good score (especially for the price) and I'm guessing that in the long run, this will fit you a good bit better than the valve king.

Re: NAD: vox AC15

hehe, i know no top boost, right? i've got a plan though. another one of my co-workers wants to trade me a fender HRDx for it, and i figure i could probably flip the HRDx and get a current model ac-15c1 with top boost. who knows, i'm still trying to figure this out;)

Re: NAD: vox AC15

Wow, that looks like an awesome deal. Can't you just get some electrical service spray for the pots? I had this with my 2554 combo, used a little service spray a couple of times over a couple weeks and now it seems fine.

Re: NAD: vox AC15

Nice score! Put a treble booster pedal on your board, not exactly the same thing ut you'll have a bit of the right vibe.

Re: NAD: vox AC15

as far as i know those ac-15 technically have top boost circuits just no other channels that said the new ac15s look equally as nice or even AC30C1X I think if you flip a HRDx u should be able to get something nice either way I was GASing for one of these just vefore they moved everything to china and would love to hear one is it still chimey and bright ish

yea, i was probably going to get some from radioshack or similar in the next couple days here. we'll see:)

thanks guys:D

Re: NAD: vox AC15

Nice score!!! Grab the schematics and check out the resistor just after the decoupling cap between the first gain stage and the second... If it doesn't have a small cap of about 470uF parallel to the grid stop resistor, you can simply add it for the top boost... Do it right and you can drop it later and no one would be the wiser...
