New Accesories Day

My Guitar assembly s=days are coming to an end. Now I've got about 6 old tube amps that need recapping.
With an eye towards that, I dropped 50 small today.
A Klein wire stripper, and a Weller 75 Watt iron.

Feast your eyes!;

Re: NAD

Hey-I use a 230w gun for pot grounds. Yeah, it'll get red hot in 10 seconds, but it'll also put a lead on a pot casing in 4. The rest of it doesn't even get a chance to get hot before the shiny new joint cools. I won't do fine work with it but I've found underpowered irons to be more detrimental to pots because you have to hold it on the joint so long it damages the innards.

I just envision Jerry burning down the house trying to do a cap job on an old marshall with that thing.

I've got one too, it was a gift, and I've never even opened it.

+-1 bro!! Using low wattage irons on Pots and having to stay on them so long to get a solid ground joint to the back of the case is NOT a good thing!

Re: NAD

man, you guys must be doing something wrong. It takes me about 4 seconds to do a pot ground with my dinky little 40W iron.

The only reason why you cant use a low wattage iron (I used to use an 18w when I started) is if you don't have the appropriate tip.

With a flat chisel tip pots should be a breeze with an 18w+

I was beginning to think I was the only one. Here I was starting to feel stupid being happy with the Radio Shack pencil iron I've used for the past six years.
