nail the tone

finally i saved some money and decided to start the project which
i gased for since 2 years - building my own amp :32:

i think that a good old blackface will be the right thing for me
(it should become the perfect texas blues amp, but i'm gonna use it
for rockabilly and classic rock also)

i'm a little unsure about two details:
- will the 6v6 or 6l6 -variant be the better choice for me? (6A20 or 6A20hp)
is there a noticeable difference in sound?
(i don't care about 20w or 35w due to 20 will be enough)

- speakers: which size/price/sound ratio will be my thing?
.. i like the eminence texas heat a lot, dunno if it harmonizes for that setup
.. alternative 2 texas heat for more .. :omg:
.. the eminence legend 151 would also be a big bang for the buck, .. to soft?
.. jensen c15 would be what vibroverbs had built in .. would you recommend it?
.. the weber cali15 would be insane but 50$ just for shipping ??

i'd be interested about your opinions - what kinda tubes and speakers
would be the perfect setup for a texas blues tone (strat and od808 as source)

cheers martin

Re: nail the tone

meanwhile i found out that the 35watt version like the old vibroverb
ist what i want - so two 6L6 are my choice.

i'm still unsure about the speakers to use. i don't want to trial and
error to much on this on the one hand, and if possible don't wanna have
to pay to much on the other.
due to weber speakers cost me to much shipment+import tax,
my favourite choices from the local dealers would be ...
- 1x15 using a Jensen C15N
- 1x15 using a Eminence Legend 151
- 2x12 using two Eminence Texas Heat (2x16 ohms in parallel)

can you recommend me one of this for rock and texas blues tone?
other speakers? (eminence, jensen and celestion are in reach)

thanks, martin

Re: nail the tone

I would use a 15" speaker. It will increase your headroom considerably. I have a DR which I love, but it is lacking in headroom. A common solution to clear up the bottom and increase headroom is to use a Celestion G12H or a Vintage 30. With a 35W amp it may not be necessary. I have no experience with the speakers you are recommnding.
