I need to clean up the horns because there's still some paint on the curves. I'm going to look at some sealer and stain tomorrow.

I'm having a wicked idea, if you're up to it (and like the idea).

The grain on the wings is nicer than the center... if you don't do a solid color, try a reverse burst - solid in the center, fading to transparent over the wings.

Just sand through the rest of that veneer and I think it'll look decent.

I don't think that is a veneer, it's a poly grain sealer. Very hard and difficult to remove. Only lots of sanding.

I don't think that is a veneer, it's a poly grain sealer. Very hard and difficult to remove. Only lots of sanding.

I'm seeing grain that doesn't match up. The veneer is whitish, where the sealer is orangeish.

It's back to looking like a turd. The stain I tried doesn't look anything like its sample. I will need to strip and sand it down again.

Yes it turned out to be baby blue rather than aqua colored.

Finally all put back together. I wanted a weathered aqua color, but it ended up baby blue. I don't like it, but not enough to want to change it. It plays great though. I'm not 100% on the Custom 8 I have in it and surprisingly the no name hotrails at the neck position sounds good.

Finally all put back together. I wanted a weathered aqua color, but it ended up baby blue. I don't like it, but not enough to want to change it. It plays great though. I'm not 100% on the Custom 8 I have in it and surprisingly the no name hotrails at the neck position sounds good.

I swapped out the Custom 8 for a Dean Timecapsule. The Custom 8 was just to fat and hairy for this guitar. The Timecapsule is a much better pickup for this guitar. The Timecapsule is bright, resonant and articulate which counteracts the darkness of the short scale.
