Nato bodies?

I noticed that some of the new Jackson Pro guitars have Nato bodies, but I wanted to know if this is a bad thing. I've read that it sounds very similar to mahogany. I think I can trust Jackson at this price point, but wanted to know if I should street clear of Nato wood

In the Eighties, Yamaha used to make extensive use of Nato in some of their low-to-mid priced electric guitars. Perhaps, they still do.

Love the tone with both WMD Warbeast I've owned (maple neck-thru "nato" bodies w/ebony boards).
Both these are the exact same model and sound as close to identical as two units could ever be.

Definitely on the lighter weight and very resonate side of the spectrum. IMO it's a more open tone than most standard mahogany, like in-between hog and alder.
Both ring-out with great sustain.

Every slab of wood is it's own thing of course,,,,,but if I had to guess I'd say it will be closer in tone to an alder Jackson (dinky-pro) than a USA soloist (mahogany),,,but really somewhere right in-between.

I had to look up Nato, as I have a classical electric I fool around with (it sounds great plugged in):

Nato wood is a collective name for wood from Mora trees (the best-known species are Mora excelsa (Mora) and Mora gonggrijpii (Morabukea). This not to be confused with Nyatoh (an Asian hardwood with a very similar look and characteristic to Honduras Mahogany, though totally unrelated).

I've heard it described as a mahogany too, but I guess that is just marketing (like various woods described as rosewood).

Got a Mockingbird with a whammy on it that's made out of the stuff. Sounds fine to me. But, it also has a thin maple top, so I don't know if that influences my conclusion.

Nato is good stuff, no problems guitar wise.

Thats good, I kinda figured if someones gonna pay 1000 bucks for a guitar that a brand like Jackson wouldn't skimp on materials

This is another issue entirely, and you will find plenty of examples of 'value for your $1000' and 'not worth the $1000' in the guitar world out there.
