Nazgul vs Pegassus in Basswood

Hi there People!:wave:

I've seeked the help of this forum twice before and have enjoyed the feedback and made me pull the trigger on a black winter set for my 6 string Mahogany bodied guitar(It's amazing, bridge is perfect for the brootz:headbang: and the neck is good for high gain solos) and now i seek the help of this forum again to help me choose my next pickup in a basswood 26.5 inch 7 stringer. It currently has d-activators and well they aren't good for much except high gain modern metal. So i was led to these two pickups: nazgul and pegasus. I'll be playing Melodeath, Death 'n Roll(it's a genre listen to blackstar rising to get it), hard rock, heavy metal and classic rock. So what i need is the brootz:headbang: as well as that liquid beautiful semi-gain beutiful leads from stuff like Iron Maiden , Judas priest, Van Halen and Def Leppard. I know it's a lot to ask from a 7 string pickup. I was set on the Nazgul but I heard a demo of the Pegasus and fell in love with it, it's like a JB(my favourite pickup) but in 7 string form made for metal. So I'm leaning to the Pegasus/ Sentient set but what'd you people think? It'll be played through Axe fx and a Laney Ironheart or through my laptop running Amplitube and Peavey Revalver. Any feedback would be appreciated:feedback:

From your description, I'd go with the Pegasus, as you tend to play varying styles. It is a great pickup, and it sounds great through modelers and conventional amps too.

i was in more or less the same alley, and was not sure whether to put a nazgul or a pegasus also in a basswood guitar, after lots of comparisons between the two, pulled the trigger on pegasus, and boy i was not disappointed. it is totally worth it for the high dynamic range and its versatility. for the stated genres i would recommend it to you, because you already got a BW set in another guitar and feel you dont need another high-output compressed beast. if you like JBs you'll like this better.

as for my tonal findings (on basswood maple bolt-on neck with rosewood fretboard), i'm not sure how best to describe it. it is thick while remaining very clear, without over the top aggressive edge. you can thicken the sound with gain to your liking but it will remain clear in a mix throughout. i actually dialed back some gain, because it is as if i dont need to pack mids to be heard anymore, and even if you do it doesnt get muddy like others. if the heaviest you plan to go with these are melo-death, then i'm quiet confident it is capable of delivering that down to lush cleans (not those BW type compressed cleans though) and everything inbetween. clean sounds with the humbucker split are totally usable with plenty of bite and bottom too. I also found that the closer it is to the strings, it gets clearer (something i'm not used to in other heavy sounding pickups)

however i wouldnt exactly call it a high-ouput pickup. it is really meant for getting modern heavy sounds while keeping the dynamic aspect of pick attack. so realistically it is not as aggressive as nazgul or DD.

Pegasus. Nazgul is more aggressive than Black Winter IME.

Yep! I have a Nazgul 6 and it is extremely aggressive, great note separation (maybe not as the Pegasus) and awesome harmonics!

I can't help thinking if you don't like the DA you won't like the Nazgul, or the BW.
