NBD!!! My first bass!

Tiny Recap...

Back at Christmas, my sister's fiancé gave me this hideous red Sonata (made by Hondo) explorer/precision bass. It was ugly, the electronics were busted, the nut was gone, and the whole thing suffered the effects of years and years of neglect. He said if I fixed it up, I could keep it. So I did. Woohoo!!!

I put in a cheap Chinese pickup made by a company called Belcat. Ceramic mags, and it's wound to about 8.8k or thereabouts.

It sounds and plays pretty damn decent, even considering the plywood body. Sustains pretty long, sets up pretty easily, and has a full, clear and even tone but it's still got some spank to it. Huzzah!

Thanks guys! It's really fun to play, and it balances exceptionally well when standing. I definitely need to get a proper bass amp though, for recording and jamming at home.

Re: NBD!!! My first bass!

It looks like it took a step up - good work. I've definitely been beginning to appreciate my own bass much more recently too.

I gotta be honest, I'm more excited for the Star, seeing as guitar is my main instrument, and I'll be able to do a lot more on that than this bass. Also, the Star is the only guitar I own which is pretty much totally custom (I spec'd out literally everything on it and didn't have to make any compromises). Still though, this one is just too cool for school.

LOL jesus, that'd be overkill for me. Not that I couldn't handle it, but if I expected to make any progress, it'd be like a full time job!

Yeah it could explain why i am struggling to do my studies.

Re: NBD!!! My first bass!

hehe thanks man. Every time I look at it sitting in the corner, I am gripped by the sudden urge to go play it!

Re: NBD!!! My first bass!

LOL kinda ironic you say that cuz I can see all the mistakes and imperfections and stuff that I was too lazy to fix properly, but it's mostly superficial stuff. All the really important bits I took care of. I guess as long as you guys think it's great, doesn't matter so much about the superficial screwups.
