NBD

Re: NBD

If you are using EMG-PJ pickups, it would be logical to get and EMG control harness.

The conventional choice would be Master Vol, Balance panpot, Mid, stacked Treble/Bass. Jazz Bass devotees might prefer N Vol, B Vol, Mid, stacked Treble/Bass. I would be tempted to have the EMG-VMC sweepable mid range cut/boost device.

On my Warwick Streamer Stage 1 five string, the stock MEC electronics work perfectly with a pair of SD/Basslines narrow soap bar pickups.

Re: NBD

Isn't longcat a girl?

yes. and plays bass.

i worked at gc for a few years and always loved those basses. my favorite active bass! the preamp is really hot, the emgs themselves have plenty of output then with the boost of the preamp the signal can clip the input of the amp really easy

Sure sign of a studio bass, intended to be recorded directly into a mixing console. :approve: My Warwick is like that. Simply plug in and record. The sound just sits in a track right away. Enjoy.

In a previous life, Pigbacon's avatar was Evan Rachel Wood. Did that make him a woman? Did having a pot belly piglet as an avatar make him a piglet? Does I6 really wear a green mankini? Is Crusty really Rory Gallagher reincarnated? Is idsnowdog an endlessly changing succession of well-endowed ladies?

yes, yes, i am a "girl" if one can still be a "girl" at 30. no, i haven't been around much lately. life happens, and ****.

the new P pup came in today so first things first, tonight (hopefully) i'll be seeing if it works. then on to the preamp business. i think i'm going to go for 2-band EQ instead of 3...i just don't have the skill for 3 to be useful to me at this point. i probably don't have the skill to warrant a spector at all, but you know, what the hell, right? and you are right that i would prefer master volume with panning instead of N vol and B vol. my ibanez has the dual-vol setup and it drives me nuts, so i don't see that changing just because this one cost me a few hundred more.

you surely do know more about this than i do, so thanks for chiming in. (and yes, i sometimes play with a pick. not always though. ;) )

My bass is (besides ridiculously affordable and low-end) passive but I'm sure I could work with an active circuit. There's no reason to steer away from it, just keep it flat and boost or cut as you see fit.

Re: NBD

Right now, my favourite onboard active EQ is the SD/Basslines Blackouts for Bass 2-band. The bass control fattens up the deep end when required. The "treble" control can be set to operate in a midrange area that really brings out the growl in a Fender bass.

Even though the Spector is not a Fender, its pickups offer Fender-like tones - albeit distinctly EMG versions of them. I have had an EMG-P in my factory fretless Precision Bass for about as long as Astrozombie has been alive. More recently, I fitted an EMG-35-P4 in a Flea Bass. Thanks to the pickups, these two instruments sound surprisingly similar. Depressing, innit?

Re: NBD

Let me know how the active EQ works out. My Ripper is a fun player but the bubba'd electronics are lacking. When I bought it, it had a huge Dimarzio bass bucker in the neck position and a v/t setup. I threw in a L500XL in the bridge position and a 3 way toggle. I think I'd like a little more in the way of tone shaping...

Re: NBD

hey no sweat dude, i'm just amused by the youthful picture you're all painting of me.

Cuz Im a WO- Man!! ;) I think you put up a pick once and I wouldnt have guessed you to be that age.. Hope the pup works out for you, that bass is smmmooooth..
