Here's my new to me bass. After a 4 hour round trip early this morning and a quick tweek I'm really digging this one. The neck was too straight so I adjusted the truss rod, set the string height, intonation was still good, lemon oiled the board and sorted. I'm super impressed with everything about it, I even like the tort guard which I thought I'd hate as I recently took one off my G&L Legacy but it looks great in the flesh so to speak so it's staying on. It's a softcore aged Fiesta red that is super thin, you can see where it's sunk into the grain and its got a really cool patina. Sound wise it's chunky and percussive, more so than the Jazz, and the power and growl it's got really surprised me. It's a tad lighter than the Jazz which isn't heavy (both of the Sandberg basics I sold were heavier) and like the Jazz it's very resonant. Whilst I'm not very savvy with basses and still have lots to learn I had some good info from a few of you guys on what to expect from a P bass and it was very helpful and very much appreciated. I realise that the whole relic thing doesn't cut it with a lot of folk I really like Sandbergs work and like the fact that I won't have to baby these. I need to get some better photos of these as the phone images do not do either justice.

Re: NBD

Stick with the stock bridge. Maybe, change the pickup to something with two rod magnet polepieces per string. You'll have THE sound.

Re: NBD

I will certainly look into that further down the road mate, but I'll just leave things be for now. Thanks for your help in my other thread, it helped sway me to get my ass up early this morning :D

Re: NBD

OMFG, you have been getting the best intsurments lately. That Tele was the best of all.

Stop this at once, you are giving my inferiority complex an inferiority complex.

Re: NBD

Thank you very much. Been playing both today through the briefcase and whilst I always wanted a Jazz bass I really dig both and in terms of playability and sound there is no clear winner..... Just a myriad of tones :D

Re: NBD

Cool looking basses. I'll never understand why tortoise shell gets a bad rap. It looks great on some finishes, such as fiesta red.

Re: NBD

I agree GJ, I'm not the biggest fan of tort and did infact swap out the tort guard on my Blonde G&L Legacy for a white one. But I absolutely love the tort on fiesta red with the rosewood board.
