NCD: Mesa Rectifier 4x12

Brought home a used Mesa Rectifier 4x12 the other day. So far I've been happy with it, but I was really happy when I opened up the cab tonight for a peek and started Googling stuff. According to the date codes on the V30s, they were made on 18 January, 1999, which should mean that they were made before the whole Chinese V30 thing started.

This cab was the way to go for my Recto. It took care of the things that bothered me about the Recto's voicing so well that I'm seriously considering putting 6L6s back in the poweramp.

The V-30s I've seen in Mesa cabs are always Made In England....I think that's all they use.

This is true... Years ago Celestion even changed the formula of the UK made V30 to bring costs down a bit and mesa didnt like it. So Mesa got celestion to make them their own v30 which is the same specs as the orginals.

Sweet!
I once tried one of those cabs with a Triple Rec at a studio. Took the master up to 7 or 8 at one point.
Hysterically massive and heavy sound!

Nice! Is this the oversized standard one or the traditional sized one? Been trying to track down a 4 x 12 traditional one but they're scarce in the UK and I have to order one direct from the supplier if I want to get one, but I don't know how it'll sound yet compared with a standard.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I like Mesa. :)

Oh, ok, I had read that it was when Celestion moved production to China. But either way, Mesa sourced V30s are the way to go. These must have been made before the change you mentioned because they have the regular Celestion label and not the Mesa label.

It's a standard recto cab, but it's still a little bigger than my other cabs.

And thanks, everybody!

Merry Christmas!

Love those cabs. What were you using before?

I used to run it through an Avatar Traditional 4x12 loaded with Eminence Texas Heats & Swamp Thangs, but I sold that cab & speakers earlier this year. Lately I've been running the Recto through my Splawn straight 4X12 loaded with Eminence Governors & Mano O Wars. I also occasionally ran it through my Marshall 1960A loaded with Celestion G12T75s (Brit) & V30s (Chinese), and my Avatar Vintage 4x12 loaded with the same Celestions as the Marshall. But no matter what cab, speakers, or speaker combination I tried, I couldn't get it to sound to my liking. Until now.
