I know back in the 70's he was playing Les Pauls ... and for the NYC show on the G3 tour, he played a LP with a Floyd/Kahler type bridge.

When Journey first came out I believe he had an endorsement with Jackson. They were making a Neal Schon guitar. It was some kind of highbred somewhere between a Jackson and a Gibson. It was kind of LP shaped, but had two HB that were coil tapped if I remember it correctly. It was a long time ago.. I had played one and thought it was kind of different from everything else at the time!!

BTW Why is it that Zakk (did his mother spell it that way????) Wylde (did his father spell it that way???) is constantly on the cover or the main topic of discussion of every guitar magazine????
The guy can rip....I won't deny that...but WTF????? I don't get the attraction.....maybe I'm just too old to appreciate him.

In addition to his other guitars, Neil recently has been seen playing a McNaught Vintage Singlecut in tobacco sunburst with Rio Grande humbuckers.

While I agree that there are other great metal guitarists out there besides Zakk and Dime, they are by far the ones that have the most name recognition. Zakk is very outspoken, as well, and was the one of the first in the backlash against all the garage crap as well as rap "metal" crap.
He's a genuine guitar hero that has never tried to mix techno, rap, or other influences into his stuff. His style ranges from vocal/piano ballads to the grungiest downtuned riffage ever, and his chops are above reproach.
An entertainer through through, I only hope he contines to get MORE recognition ...

Yeah I'm not a big metal guy & don't listen to a lot of B.L.S or Ozzy (he still with Oz?)...I heard an acoustic tune he did a while back...maybe "America The Beautiful" & I couldn't believe it was Zakk. It was truly beautiful.
I just don't understand why those mags put the same guys on the cover all the time. And yes, for a while, Dimebag was the guy constantly there.
Anyway....I won't deny either of them their due. They both tear it up. And it isn't their fault that they're out there all the time.

Magazines have a job: to sell more magazines! So, they'll put whoever on the cover will achieve that end, whether it's Zakk or Jackie O.

Sorry dude, Journey was around LONG before the Schon guitars were done. Journey's first record was in 73 if memory serves. The early records were a combination of LP's, Strats and even Aria Pro's were used in concert. Not sure about the studio. Various amps as well but Marshalls and HiWatts were on the list.
