Other than changing the nut and changing the bridge pup, almost done. For now I've got an Ibanez Neo-Z in the bridge. And for now, only the bridge pup is wired.

Probably not how some were expecting this guitar to turn out, me neither actually. It started by not wanting another shiny/poly guitar, and I've tossed the idea around about relicing a guitar. So what better guitar to do that with than with a $25 one. After knocking the shine down, I decided to give relicing a shot. Yeah, beat up fake reliced guitars aren't for everyone, whatever. I personally don't understand people paying Custom Shops 2-3x the price of a new guitar to have this sort of thing done, but whatever.....it's their money.

Not everyone's cup o' tea, but that's fine.

The guitar actually plays and sounds surprisingly good. It was just missing something. OH! A pinup girl!

I absolutely totally HATE the idea of buying a reliced guitar. It's just so stupid to me. Even if it were cheaper than a "nicely finished" guitar. But for them to be priced higher than a "beautiful" new guitar is insane!

But I have to admit that you have done a good job on that and I actually like it! Doesn't really look like natural aging or "relicing"...just looks like a beater. (But the pin-up has to go, it doesn't add anything and actually takes away from an otherwise good looking guitar).

Ya know, that's pretty dang cool. I took a Squier like that once and slapped the Brobucker I had in the bridge, just it and a volume knob. Upgraded the tuners and bridge too. Made it surprisingly good difference. Solid wood too.

I think the sticker is too big. The main reason for it was to hide that gash there. I like how everything else turned out except for that one spot.
I'm on the hunt for a smaller, perfect Bettie Page sticker.

I'm surprised how nice this thing plays. This guitar has become my unplugged/watching tv guitar. Could have something to do with the middle pickup hole, but this thing is loud acoustically. The cheapest guitar I have, and its probably the most resonant.

Actually, that big gash adds to the coolness of the guitar. It gives it even more character. Don't hide it with a silly sticker.

Sticker is gone. It was looking a bit tacky. I guess I'll learn to love the Gorbachev Gash.

What bridge did you change to? I have the trem blocked, but I would like to change the trem block to possibly a brass block. If that's even possible on a squier trem.

Yesterday I installed the Tusq nut. It was a little wider, so I had to sand a little off the length, but the 3mm more space between the E's is perfect. It was a little crowded for me.








Today I received the 490t that I got in a trade with thrill74, and I just finished putting it in. And it sounds killer! I also hooked up the single coil (still not sure what kind). Pups are selected by a three way toggle. Middle position is definetly different. I think in time I'm going to go with on/off/on. Just not sure if that's possible with the switch that I have.



Any ideas on what brand the single coil may be? Sounds ok, but I think I'm going to go with an SSL-5.

I got one of the GuitarFetish import steel block strat trems. With the body being thinner than a typical strat, the block goes right to the edge so the springs stick out there a little bit. Didn't bother me. I also changed the saddles from the vintage style that came on it to modern Gotoh style also from GuitarFetish. I still have the bridge. If you're interested, let me know. The blocks from GF are cheap to if you want to swap it to brass.

Traded a wah pedal for a 490t. DDJ was just in the pic with the single coil.

Yup. They are still on it. I'll dig it out of my parts box later. I'm pretty sure I still have it. At least, I don't remember selling it...LOL.

I've cut a few of the brass GFS blocks to go into thin Strat bodies. (I hate getting caught in the springs :crazy: ) A friend of my dad's is a retired metal worker with a shed fulla mills/lathes/etc. It took him about 45 seconds to cut the end off the block, the small holes to put the springs back in MIGHT need to be re-drilled, the first block we cut, the spring holes were deep enough, and the one we just did, the holes were barely deep enough before we cut it.... Also, I definitely bought the Brass block, and Metal Man said, "Are you sure this is Brass? It doesn't cut like it." Go figure.
Oh, and back in the day, it seemed like every other guitar at the stores where I lived, were full of cheap Hondo/Arbor/Lotus/etc Strats, that had been "aged" and gotten a quick stripe job (and doubled the price :33: ) so seeing yours definitely brought back some memories.

I got the entire tremolo http://www.guitarfetish.com/105mm-Chrome-Spaced-Import-Made-in-Mexico-BRASS-BLOCK_p_1158.html once, and JUST the block the second time (and all the holes lined up just fine on the top part) in case that matters.

Speaking as someone who owns both an $8000 Ace Frehley Aged Budokan, and a self-abused $99 Kramer...

Here is the Sticker thing - I like it, but either smaller or add a couple of others. And "age" the sticker! Few scuff, a tear, etc...
