Necessary changing only the volume pot to 500k or the tone ones too? strat

Hi all,
I use an american standard strat with some pretty high output pickups.
Seymour Duncan hot rails + JB (Neck/middle)
+ Dimarzio X2N humbucker at the bridge.

All my pots are 250k.
Sound is muddy at the bridge when volume 6+
Should I change only the volume one to 500k or change all of them?

I would start with just the volume, see how that works for you.

If it doesn’t give you enough, other possibilities:

1) change tones for no load blend pots, essentially takes them out of the circuit when they’re full on

2) connect tone pots 50s style

3) put a “treble bleed” bypass cap on your volume pot

If you want to play rolled-down a lot then I'd go treble-bleed.
I'd also go to the 500k volume at least.

I actually reckon just treble bleed if you like the sound on ten already. 2c

I meant it sounds muddy when on 6-10
when it's 1-5 it sounds good.
isn't a treble bleed supposed to fix muddy sound when the volume decrease?

You must already have a treble bleed on there. I 2nd 500k volume and 500k no load tone. I have 500k volume without a tone on my hss with sc sized hbs and it sounds good.

+1
Possible JB will get a bit shrill with 500k, but you can always add a resister in parallel if needed.

The JB is a Jr. neck model from what I can tell. 500k will be just fine. It is nothing like an SH-4.

Go with all 500k pots, modern wired. A 500k audio tone pot is 250k at around 8.

Have you considered whether the flame-throwing X2N is the right pickup for your situation?

Ah jr is a different story.

You can do several things that may help a little. But understand that you have high output pups that will naturally introduce some distortion/muddiness when the vol pot is turned up past 6 or 7.

1. Change vol pots to 500k or 1 meg,
2. In addition to changing the vol pot, add a treble bleed mod to the vol pot,
3. Keep the vol pot turned down when you want to play clean,
4. Put in different pups (lower output/resistance).
