Neck Cleaning Question

This is more of a I kind of screwed up and need reassurances kind of question

The other night and used a little bit of isopropyl alcohol to clean the rosewood fretboard on my guitar. I used alcohol before for cleaning wood because it doesn't raise grain and it was just lying around so I didn't think much about it. I used a little on a cotton pad to take some gunk off. I followed up immediately with some lemon oil.

Of course I thought about it later and decided to look it up and saw that it was probably not a good idea.

I know I'm just being a little paranoid, but one time shouldn't have caused any permanent damage right? :smack:

Also, I may have done the same to another guitar with a maple neck (minus the lemon oil).

 I love that you started off with honesty

If you followed up with oil, then you're good.

The isopropyl alcohol evaporated really fast, and was not on the wood for very long. Even if you doused it, the alcohol evaporated quickly. All it really does is dry things out, but if you oiled the neck / board afterwards, then you replaced any "moisture" or oils that were lost in the alcohol-ing of the neck / board.

Re: Neck Cleaning Question

I would be more worried about the maple one. I assume you meant it had a maple fretboard. Im no expert on them, but I was always under the impression you dont use anything to clean those things as its bad for them.

No clue. My understanding, however inaccurate was that it is sealed and should be less effective. But it's a 15 year old guitar at this point, so it's probably closer to raw maple. It doesn't seem to have effected it in any noticeable way that I can tell?

Re: Neck Cleaning Question

I would use naphtha instead of alcohol in the future, but don't worry about it. You didn't do any harm.
