Neck diver cured!

You don't normally think of Teles as neck divers - maybe an SG, but not a Tele. This one is a 72 Thinline style (Warmoth) which has a lighter body than solid body ones, and has the tendency to head south a bit when hands are off the neck. This Mono "Betty" strap solved the problem nicely. As you can see it's wider than the average strap, and the backing material provides just enough traction without being shirt-pulling grippy. And the memory foam inserts - combined with the width of the strap - makes the "felt" weight of the guitar practically zero. This would be a nice match for a Les Paul.

Neck dive can ruin an otherwise fun guitar playing experience. Congrats on solving your problem!

Changing the tuners to sperzels is also a good way.

I knew some one who drilled a deep hole in his SG were the rear strap button was and glued a brass rod in there. Then he drilled the end of that brass rod and screwed the button back in. No more neck dive. I don't necessarily recommend this technique.

That's pretty extreme. I used to have an SG. Used to have. The neck didn't ever feel comfortable to me, but I probably could have gotten used to that if it hadn't been for the neck diving. They can be great guitars except for that issue. It eludes me how people can deal with that, and I don't think my Mono strap would take care of an SG neck dive... maybe velcro a strap to the shoulder of your shirt

Hmm, I'll have to remember that, although I would probably be tempted to use Mallory Metal. lol

My EB3 is all over the place and the brand-new thick leather Levy's strap ain't doing a thing. Not only does it neck dive, but it also rolls away from my body, face down. I'm thinking I may go as far as putting another strap nut on the back and use two holes to hold it there, and while I'm at it I may as well hand a weight off the strap at that point.

My SG neck dives if I use a glossy kind of strap, but not with my leather strap that has a rough, kind of suedey back.

THese really help with the neck dive situation-they're a LOT lighter than the usual tuners and hold tune well too.
http://www.g-gotoh.com/international/?page_id=2232 would probably help a guitar more than bass tuners...duh.
And the bolt-neck SG's don't have the neck "sticking out" as far as the set neck ones, mine has zero balance issues even with heavy Rotomatics.

I saw some YouTube videos saying that you put in packs of small ball bearings at the control cavity of the guitar, it would help. I have an EC407 and it does neck dive, so I'm thinking of trying this out but am unsure of how it will turn out, anyone tried it??
