Neck humbucker with attack and clarity

Re: Neck humbucker with attack and clarity

Thats a good place to start; have that combo in a Custom Shop Gibson Mahogany Classic atm and it sounds great.

Re: Neck humbucker with attack and clarity

I haven't had much luck with DiMarzios. I had an Evo in a 1998 Jackson Soloist, no good; I put the JB back in. I had a PAF in a 2008 Gibby LP Classic, just a wash of midrange that seemed like a blur of notes in the lower registers.

However, I did have a Steve's Special in an older Ibanez S470, and it was quite nice. The clarity was impressive, and the harmonics were right on.

These were all bridge pups. So, I guess I'm 1 for 3 on DM pups. Not horrible, but...

All this and no one has recommended a Liquifire or PAF Pro yet?

Re: Neck humbucker with attack and clarity

I don't think of PAF Pro or Liquifire when I think of clear neck pickup. Or Breed neck or........ etc. Too hot, too dark on the low notes to get much but mush.

Light wind neck pickups easily have the output and volume to keep up with a hot bridge due to greater string vibration in the neck, and much more clarity.

Re: Neck humbucker with attack and clarity

Breed I'll agree with, too fat, and that's not what it's for, but PAF Pro and Liquifire aren't clear? Maybe you're mistaking jangle for clarity... and there aren't a lot of pickups you can riff on down low like you can either of them without it turning into a tubby mess. Meh, whatever.

Demon or the Jazz would be good choices in Duncans.
