Neck p90 antiquity has too much bass in a Les Paul

I recently swapped the pickups in my Les Paul. I put an Antiquity humbucker in the bridge, an Antiquity p90 in the neck, and did the 50s wiring modification. The bridge pickup sounds great but the neck p90 Antiquity has too much bass. Is there anything that I can do to adjust the amount of bass or am I better off swapping the neck pickup? Thanks.

You're best off changing magnets to less bassy ones. Very quick and easy to do. All you need is a screwdriver. P-90's have two bar magnets (same kind as HB's), laying side-by-side, repelling. I don't remember, but I think Ant's have A5's, which are bright, bassy and midscooped. A4's and A3's have more mids and less low end.

the antiquity p90's have aged a2 magnets. i would swap to a3 if you are going to swap.

first id try lowering the pup itself and raising the pole pieces to get the volume back

I have one in the neck/Rhythm position of my Gibson LP Junior Special. It is set fairly low. I almost always play through an overdriven amp. It sings.

Start of with Raising D G B E 3-4 MM
Raise the pickup so that low E is 6 mm under the string and high E is as close as it gets with strings at last fret pushed down.

The bridge = just radius the screws and raise as much as possible.

I really like the P90 ants

the bridge is fine and its a humbucker. i like p90 ants too but please try and read more carefully

This is extremely odd. I have three Antiquity soapbars and they have a lot less bass than the various Gibson soapbars I have (including ones from a R6 but I think they are all made the same anyway, CS or not).

What pickup did you have in there before?

I get the same phenomenon as op if I set it to close.
Way to thick n bassy in my R6.
But if I just drop the bass side just a little its a pretty dramatic bass reduction.

Try putting a cap in series with the pickups hot lead at some point. At .0068 it will cut a bit of bass, and at .0033 a fair amount. Try out some different values.

Jeremy, thank you for this suggestion. I lowered it and the amount of bass has decreased significantly. I had no idea that that would have an impact on the bass level. It now sounds the way I hoped that it would. Cheers
