Neck pickup on bridge?

I was wondering if there would be any reason why not use a Neck Hot Rail in the bridge position, beside the difference in output of course? Are they specifically built for each position or is it just an output issue and aside from that, they are just the same?

In the past there were no position specific pickups. Some manufacturers now attempt to calibrate the tone, output and pole spacing for the position. So there's really no reason why you couldn't use a neck position in the bridge.

Definitely worth a try. Wont hurt anything. Pickups that are specified for the neck position are usually calibrated to have a little bit less lows to compensate for the added low end added by the vibration of the strings in the neck area of the guitar. On the opposite spectrum, one of my favorite pickups to use in the neck position of some guitars is the 59bridge model.. The added lows it has from being calibrated for the bridge gives it a little more "smokey" flavor for blues playing..

I say, go for it! Allan Holdsworth used a neck 59 in the bridge, and many others do the same type of thing. There are really no rules here- try it, and see how you like it.

Go for it. I use a Screaming Demon in the neck of my LP and it sounds great. And I've always liked the EMG 85 in the bridge even though lots of people use it as a neck pup.

The only issue might be string spacing. Your poles may be too narrow if you have a bridge that requires a Trembucker.

Even if the poles are a little off, it still may work fine depending on the strength of the magnet and your ears. It might hurt your OCD, though.

The Demon is one of the best neck pups made.

i accidentaly put my HB102n in the bridge. It was weak for riffing but okay for soloing. I've read that people do it for cleans and clarity.

Jazz bridge works in the neck position.

If you look at some of the pickups on the DMZ site, they will make some recommendations switching positions on some pickups.

This is probably one of the more under-experimented mods out there. I am sure many neck pickups sound good in the bridge and vice versa.

Pole spacing won't be a problem with the Rail pickup–I say go for it!

And as others have mentioned, the Screamin Demon is an awesome neck pickup.
