Neck pickup thoughts

I'm looking for a new neck pickup to go in my NJ Classic Mockingbird (neck through, maple/ebony). I'm looking for something that will give nice warm, tasty cleans. Bridge pickup is a Super Distortion, which handles the heavy stuff quite nicely. I'm thinking along the Alnico 2 lines, as I like the 490R in my SG paired with a Duncan Custom. Maybe another 490R, Duncan Alnico 2 pro, or even a GFS classic II? :feedback:

Dimarzio Paf would be the obvious choice. I personally really like the A5 super 2 that I have paired with a Super D.

i like your thinking on either the A2P or an A2 gibson, can see how they'd both work well with the superD. you may want something hotter in a 24-fretter of that construction... you certainly have options
nice guitar btw

Re: Neck pickup thoughts

the a2pro has warmth but a clear top end. I dunno how it does that so well, but it does.

maple+ebony is a combination in most applications, so an a2 mag is a good bet for a balanced sound. not sure how the neck-thru thing plays into that but it's prolly not a big deal

people recommend the a2pro neck for that "slash" tone. Well slash can go do whatever but the a2pro certainly has a very singing, vowel-like lead tone. just play into a loud amp and let it feed back just a little bit and you'll DIE from tone heaven. okay maybe not but it's a tone that should be in most people's arsenals.

As far as balancing with the super D, well, it'd prolly do it pretty well. I used to use an a2pro with a CC, so I know it can keep up with a higher output pickup.
