Neck pickup to match X2N ??

I currently have an X2N in the Bridge, and Dimbucker in the neck. The Dimebucker is ok for ripping lead, but sounds like poop when playing clean, or when playing chords. Sounds way too bassy in the neck postition. When i had it in the bridge it was bright....now its the total opposite. I love the X2N. The tone is monsterous. But using my neck with the Dimebucker sucks. I was thinking about getting the D- Activator Neck PU. Any good suggestions on a neck pickup to match the X2N?

Dime in the neck? Bravo!!!!!!!!

I have always wanted to do that in a drop D guitar. What guitar?

Have you tried seriously lowering the bass end of the pup?

Can you clarify what you mean by "match" Tone, output =, complimentary eq curves, same sound except neck - what do you want in a "match"

I was thinking about getting the D- Activator Neck PU.

It could match well with the X2N because it has the output. It's bright and tight, and big sounding. I found it intimadating when I finally got the height right. Might be a good compliment.

I would strongly consider the Dimarzio PAF Joe. Check out the Youtube clip - Paul from GuitarWorld - doing a review of the Josh Rand sig guitar from Peavey. It has the PAF Joe neck with X2N bridge and it just sounds monstrous! I was considering this setup for my RG, but don't think it would be versatile enough since my main gig is playing at church.

I have A Dean Dime Flame. I love the tone from the Bridge X2N, but the Dimebucker seems way too bassy for chords. I cant seem to get a good clean sound from it. Im looking for a neck pickup that sounds big, bright, and has high output to match the x2n. i thought a 59 neck might be good, but not sure. Ace.....how do i lower the bass end of the pup? Is there a way to make the Dimebucker sound brighter in the neck? A good match for the x2n for me, would be a neck pickup that is powerful, yet sounds bright, airy, and huge ! Something i can play clean with and sound GREAT ! This is a video of me playing the Dean. Listen to the tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkTc12i8Ek0

Would you recomend the D activator X neck PU to match the X2N ? Id keep the Dimebucker in the neck, if i could only find a way to brighten it up for cleans. Any suggetsions people ?

Re: Neck pickup to match X2N ??

You'll be really happy with the Super 2 in the neck. Nice bright cleans and lots of output, not bassy whatsoever.

Umm...turn the little screw in the pickup ring that lowers the bass side of the pickup.

The Dime is a bright pup. I think you may have unrealistic expectations given the neck tone. Alternate choices that I'm thinking of are either full shred or distortion neck.

Or...Try another X2N in parallel. Amazing tone from that pup. wire a knob for push pull to go series/parallel. Might not work well to go back/forth as you'll want the parallel mode to be pretty high up, yet series will be a loud muddy mush at the same height most likely.

Re: Neck pickup to match X2N ??

better than the D activator X neck ?

From what the eq specs look like the D activator X neck looks like the complete opposite from the Super 2. And it looks like it would sound like a$$. Big low end and low high end? Are you kidding me? What the hell was Dimarzio thinking? The best match for and X2N would be the Super 2 or a D-activator neck. They both have similar eq's for a neck position and similar out put. Though its been a while since I have played D-activators.

Re: Neck pickup to match X2N ??

ive decided to go with a D Activator neck pickup. Ive heard nothing but good things about these pickups. Ofcourse ill keep the X2N in the bridge. Ill let you guys know how it sounds. and ill post a video. Thanks

Re: Neck pickup to match X2N ??

Air Norton in the neck match perfectly the D-sonic in the bridge (solid bar towars the bridge).

Re: Neck pickup to match X2N ??

I've had a super distortion in the neck to complement the X2N. They blend almost perfectly to one another as far as sound and matched output.
