Looking for a pickup for my les Paul I love the 59 but they can be muddy was thinking APH 1 . the 59 is great for blues Santana . Thanks for the help

Re: Neck pickup

I like the APH in the neck position. Pure slash tone. You better have a 500k volume pot in there as well or the neck humbucker will most always be too dark

A lot of ppl like the Pearly Gates in the neck spot of a les paul as well

Re: Neck pickup

If your not adverse to magnet swapping, try an A4 or UOA5. The A4 will give you an even response across the tonal spectrum. This could make it too bright. If so, The UOA5 will bleed in a bit more mids without loosing too much of the top or bottom.

Re: Neck pickup

You can try a lower cap value (.010μf) combined with a 500k no load tone pot on your 59 if you want a cheaper solution. Also, try backing the pickup away from the strings a bit.

That being said, I love the Jazz. You want a clear, articulate and pure awesomeness neck pickup in a Les Paul? Get a Jazz.

Re: Neck pickup

If it is very boomy then a Screaming Demon will help. I also had success with a APH1 bridge model with A5 to unboom a LP neck.

+1 to the Screamin Demon! IMO, it should be advertised as an awesome neck pickup (ofcourse, in addition to being an awesome bridge pickup)
