Neck problem. (string bending)

I've got this odd problem with the neck of my Genny. When I bend a string, as I make contact with the next string up, it starts to bend, and then "snaps" under the end of my finger, producing as much sound as if I plucked it. Same thing happens when I release the bend, and it snaps back.

The thing is, the action is maybe only a half a millimeter lower than my other guitars at the twelth fret. Is this an "action" problem? Anyone else seen this?

If I decide to "fix" it, by raising the action, what do I use as my reference point for measurement? The fingerboard radius?

I've never messed much with the action before. My others have been set pretty good just as I acquired them.

Thanks all.

Re: Neck problem. (string bending)

I don't know about other people, but I sort of rotate my fingers when I bend to "scoop" under the next string in order to prevent exactly what you described. By "rotate" I mean as I bend, my fingers go from sort of pointing down into the fretboard to pointing more parallel to it (I only encounter that problem when bending the 3 smaller strings, pushing them up instead of the bigger 3 which I pull). However, I don't really have super low action on any of my guitars...

Heh . . . but at my age, I'd rather adjust the action, than my technique. ;)

I just don't want to mess it up, if thats not the problem.

that happens to me too... maybe it's just my lack of technique??? no idea... but it's quite annoying sometimes :yell:

In your defence, I'll say that its not "lack of technique". It happens to me on only one out of four guitars. ;)

Re: Neck problem. (string bending)

Turns out, the solution was relatively simple. I just adjusted the action according to the link I already had on my own home page. ;)

MusicYo Guitar Setup

The "snap" problem is gone, but the intonation isn't quite as it should be.
I'll work on that next.

Re: Neck problem. (string bending)

I have that problem if the frets are too low. Hence, all of my instruments have Dunlop 6100s on them.

Re: Neck problem. (string bending)

Yow . . . thats a pretty tall fret, at 1.4mm. Mine are only 0.6mm. About half yours.

Whats odd is, I've got the string set nicely, the intonation is now fine, but I've got that oddball problem that I've seen others talk about before: my strings all have a nice "bite" to them, except the high "E" string, which sounds like its wrapped in cotton. I can't adjust the pole pieces on QP's, but even adjusting up the "high" side doesn't help. Its like that string is just "dead". Weird.

Maybe I just need new strings. But these aren't that old.
