I notice some necks don't taper down in width at the nut. The neck appears to have the same width down the whole neck.an example would be the Petrucci guitars by Ernie ball.
I have big fingers and I think Id like that neck profile for chording.
I almost bought a Sterling JP100D on the spot; I still sort of regret not picking it up. This is more emotional than anything, but everything on that guitar felt/sounded so right (although I'd just bought a Jackson SLX, so...)
To quantify what I like about them; a fairly thin, flat neck which is my preference. I can't say I remember how the profile transitions from the nut to the body, but it feels *really* comfortable. The body shape is a bit bigger and quite comfortable. Although I don't usually like Dimarzios, the Crunch Lab sounds pretty awesome in that guitar; smooth, uh, crunchy. The fretwork out of the box was really nice, it was set up with low action and played smooth with bends, I find they come across better than similar-priced things sitting next to them. I don't know how much different/better the US models are, but it (and the similar JP model sitting next to it which isn't quite as vivid a memory) were just very solid feeling guitars that are built to about my ideal preference, and it also looked beautiful. I've picked them up since whenever I see them at guitar stores, and am always impressed.
