neck single coil recommendations with SH5

First off this is my first post and I look forward to learning a lot here.

I have done a lot of searching on this but havent found the answer yet.

I am building a new guitar and have a Duncan custom for the bridge. What would be the right neck single coil to get a Strat tone? From what I have read so far I am concerned about a balance problem. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

Higher output single coils, or single coil-sized humbuckers, don't really get the glassy Strat tone that you are used to. A typical Strat pickup, like the SSL-2, will, but be out of balance with your bridge pickup. I'd opt for something like a tapped Hot for Stat, an SSL-3T. This way, in non-tapped mode, it will balance, but you can always hit a switch (like a push/pull pot) and get a glassier, Stratty sound.
Another option is a series parallel switch on something like a Little 59 or Cool Rails.

500k pots? id get an ssl6 for the neck. ive used it with good success in the neck with a bucker in the bridge and 500k pots. the bucker will still be hotter depending on how you set the heights but you can only get so hot without losing the stratty nature

Thanks for the response guys. I was assuming a 500k pot. My plan was to run a 3 way switch with only 1 volume control. I was hoping to keep it as simple as possible.
