neck single coil

Re: neck single coil

My humbucker guitars get harmonics just fine, are yours all single coil necks?

I've had a mix of both, and from the Texas Specials and real-deal PAFs in my current guitars to the EMG81s in my shred sticks of yesteryear, the 5th fret harmonic has been deader than dead with the neck pickup.

Re: neck single coil

With an HB the magnetic field is completely different, the coil geometry is different, and, most importantly, one coil isn't centered directly under the node.

24-fret guitars don't have this problem either (humbucker or single coil) for a hopefully(!) obvious reason. :dunno:

Had one of the original Kramer Barretas, that thing would not get 5th fret harmonics on the bridge pickup

So what your saying is...its a lot like real estate...location, location, location :smokin:

Re: neck single coil

Hi..i am a new user here. As per my knowledge a particular pickup is going to make a natural harmonic easier or sound any different. I'm not sure how advanced a player you are but if you are a beginner, is it possible that it just a technique issue?

Possibly, but he hasn't posted past this one. If you see anything, let me know, or hit 'report post'. Thanks for looking out for us.

Funny thing is, he started that post like a fresh, new post and then cut and pasted my post...go figure.

Re: neck single coil

Afaik it's just down to the maths.
...I think the neck pickup is badly positioned to register the harmonics due to the point in the waveform that it's reading.
I don't even attempt to use a neck pup for harmonics in general as they're never as pronounced as with the bridge pickup.
