Neck swap to shred

Thrash it up

New member
Hello forumers,
I own an ESP Horizon (alder body, maple archtop, ebony fretboard) with a Distortion in the bridge and a '59 in the neck.
The '59 sounds good but a bit weak for what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something with a high output to play mainly leads in distortion. Something thicker than a vintage pup that link the notes when I play tremolos. I play mostly metal

What would you recommand for a neck position I never used something else than a '59 or a jazz in that position

Thanks in advance

Re: Neck swap to shred

Liquifire is the first thing that comes to mind for me

People like the Screamin Demon in the neck for what you have described

Or if you like the tone of the 59, you could swap the magnet to a hotter magnet or get the bridge version

Re: Neck swap to shred

What's a '59 ceramic like, anyway?

I'll throw the Full Shred out there, once again. Holy crap I love that neck pickup in my Jackson Dinky.

Re: Neck swap to shred

I think from the stock 'duncans the DD neck will be the best for what you're after. Definitely has enough output so you get that nice liquidy feel during lead runs and is punchy enough to cut through. The 'demon is a killer neck pickup, but really isn't a hot neck pickup. Wouldn't have any more heat than your '59. Can't comment on the Full Shred neck, as I haven't tried it.

There is a DD neck pickup ....hint,hint...

Seriously, I'm going to turn into "that guy who won't shut up about it" but honestly, try it out.

Plenty of output and clarity, fat and fluid leads, cleans up well, and the highs aren't harsh or piercing like they can be in the bridge position.

What's not to love?

Re: Neck swap to shred

I have used both the air norton and the liquifire with the DD in the bridge with much success

My ESP Horizon has a Distortion N+B set in there. Fluid legatos from the neck? No problem, mess with your EQ (or you tone knob if you believe in it) & you're there. But this one sports an ash body...

My other ESP Horizon (II) sports a JB/Phat Cat combo. Fluid legato response from the PC with a little single coil fatness in there but it's not everyone's natural selection for such applications.
