Neck to pair with DDb

Hello!

So, I got bored with the sound of stock pickups of my guitar (korina-maple-ebony) and I'd like to swap pickups. The bridge'll definitely be DD, as I play Slayer/Metallica and some 80's stuff.
For the neck I'd like to have a pickup with decent clean tone and nice distorted soloing quality. Surely, I checked the DDn - but compared to 59 or Jazz it's a bit boomy (I listened to the tonechart samples). I also had the Pearly Gates in the neck of another my guitar, but I found it to be too much single coilish and didn't like it in general. So, I guess the best option now is APH-1 or Jazz. Am I right or you have other ideas? :scratchch

LatsMcGee, GuitarDoc doesn't demon have too much highs? I mean I still want to be able to play clean channel of my amp?
owj looks really nice! Is Jazz good for driven sound or is it more for cleans?

Re: Neck to pair with DDb

I've heard in another thread that JB in neck slot is also cool.
I'm also searching for a neck pu to pair with a 16k bridge.
Curious to hear the suggestions.

Re: Neck to pair with DDb

JB neck is more for high gain lead work on the neck pickup, does a pretty cool doom/sludge sound too, not really great for cleaner sounds without a really clean amp.

Re: Neck to pair with DDb

Ive heard that the Demon is a great neck pup and on paper, probably has too much highs, but being in the neck slot would offset that a bunch.
The Jb in the neck has become my fav neck pup. (always used 59bridge models, Jazz or pearly gates) I always discounted it thinking it would be too much. But I got a mahogany BC Rich Gunslinger with a DDb and Jb in the neck and that thing just sings for leads!!! Cleans up nicely too.
After what I learned with that, I dont doubt the Demon may be great too..

The Jazz is awesome with the Distortion - those should be my signature pickups. It's a great combination for a dark sounding solid guitar with low tuning.

Re: Neck to pair with DDb

The Jazz is really good on cleans, the only regret I had is not adding a coil tap ability :(
It sounds good on heavy driven sounds for me because it kinda separate each notes that I play, so articulation is pretty good.
Overall, I'm really loving the combo on my LTD and I'm saving now to buy the exact combo for my 7 string :)
