Necrophagist tone

Hey everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone knows what Muhammed Suiçmez uses to achieve such a brutal tone? I believe he plays an ibanez, probably an rg prestige through an ENGL amp with some sort of ISP distortion pedal, all fingers point at the 'Fetish'.
However, i might be totally wrong
cheers

Re: Necrophagist tone

He now plays the Ibanez Xiphos which is equipped with Dimarzio D Activator pups. He uses Engl SE Heads with the Eng Pro Cabs V30s) or the SE Preamp as far as i know. I'm not so sure about the ISP though. His tone is pretty much pure Engl and i guess it's rather the ISP Decimator noisegate(thinking about all the start-stops he does) and not an external distortion.

Re: Necrophagist tone

He does not use a distortion pedal, at all.

Epitaph was recorded with a Vigier Marilyn with a Duncan Custom in the bridge, through an ENGL 860 Rackhead, and a Laney 4x12 cabinet. Was mic'd with an SM57 and one other mic that the producer still wont tell anyone about.

cheers guys, yeah it makes sense he uses the noisegate, i wondered how all the pauses were so well articulated.

Hmmm, may can you perhaps give a link of any of those tracks with that particular set up. I've heard that Laney's cabs are just par at best. Thanks.

Re: Necrophagist tone

I think he spelled it wrong on purpose for the pun...if not he should have, though I do like necrophagist I agree with him about their tone, it sounds thin to me.

Re: Necrophagist tone

It's only two tracks, and yeah, it was way unhyped, but it's also super clean, clear, and articulate.

Funny... people complain about Necrophagist's tone, but not about LoG's, even though it's even thinner.

I really don't see why you'd want a thick tone for that type of playing. And yeah, the LoG guys have much more of an old-school Slayer type of tone (read: way thinner).

Re: Necrophagist tone

Oh man i'm excited if we're moving on to LoG's tone now. Yea, i agree it is super thin, and if you've seen them live you know how crappy Mark Morton usually sounds with his Marx IV's. I cant even make out the notes when he solos. At least Will adler uses a darker amp and pickup when he plays live, he uses the JB and Framus amps to get a live tone that doesnt sound like perpetual treble shrieks. On recording they both use the Mark IV through an Orange 2x12 and only guitars with duncan 59's.
