Need a ballsy single coil for strat!

Hey, while I really dig the sound of my SSL-1's (neck & mid) I really can't find the sweet spot choosing a bridge pup.. I've tried SSL-1.. it's cool but just lacks something.. I've got JB Jr and it's a good pup but I just have this feeling that I kill a strattish soul of my strat :]..

I'm looking for this glassy, woody sound but.. hmm.. on steroids.. So that I could make those more overdriven tones with ease as well..
Would you suggest me something specific?
Thanks!

Ditto - Quorta Pounda! - hold the cheese.

It's like you said - a strat pup on roids.. almost in P90 territory.

Re: Need a ballsy single coil for strat!

would you recommend flat or staggered for the bridge?
i've never used staggered pickups but maybe they're worth a try?

Staggered will have more glass. Flat will sound thicker, especially if you move the pickup close to the strings.

Yeah my mistake!:D I meant flat pups..
Anyway thanks for your input guys, appreciate it.. I guess I must try both SSL-3 and 1/4 pounder, and then I'll let you know :D

Re: Need a ballsy single coil for strat!

Christian has told me SSL-3 more than once, and I trust him. I have also heard the Twangbanger mentioned.

If you liked the JB Jr but it was wayyy too much and lacked some Strat goodness - then I would point you to the Lil 59. I have used one for 3 years now. I got it because I "had" to. I was playing everything from R&B bands to Country and Rock and had too many duties. I wanted some Strat bite, the ability to balance with the rest of my guitar, and a decent pup for gainy leads and rhythm, and this fit the the bill with MINIMAL COST.

That aside, I must say the pup is NOT "THE" answer. It is a touch nasally, and not as smooth and full as I would always like. The only thing that came close was some of the Dimarzio blade pups, but it wasn't enough improvement for me to go that route.

anyway, which one of those three (1/4 pounded, ssl-3, ssl-5) gets me closer to this nice, smooth Gilmour-like tone?

G&L, MFD single coil pickup from an S-500 model! Sounds great and has plenty of balls.
