basically, i have a shure sm57 and on its way is a tascam 4-track. however, i dont have a chord that runs from the mic to the recorder. what would be a good one? i would like it to be about 15 feet-30 feet.

also, what is a good mic stand, one of the ones that bends down and stuff.

thanks

Re: need a chord that runs from a microphone to a recorder

Any standard microphone cord should work. I don't know of any brand name thats particularly better than another.

As for mic stands, I don't care for goosenecks personaly, just because they tend to not be able to hold the weight of the mic once they get some use.
I do like a mini-boom however. I like being able to have the mic stand be offset from my position, so that I don't bump it.

Its mostly a matter of personal preference.

just buy one....it doesn't really matter what brand it is.. Go to a music store and tell them you need a mic chord.

Are you micing an amp? Best bet is a mini boom like ArtieToo said, just like a regular mike stand but shorter, the sort of thing you'd mic up a kick drum with. Goosenecks can droop.

If you want to be more versatile, you can buy a regular boom mic stand so that you can use it for vocals instead later on or whatever.

I'd say go for the goosneck because you more than likely will run into a situation where you will nedd a goosneck..

Re: need a chord that runs from a microphone to a recorder

I'd probably use a B Sharp or a C Flat chord.

xerxes,

Does your recorder have an XLR input or a 1/4" input? You can buy XLR to XLR mic cables, or XLR to 1/4" cables. If you have to go XLR to RCA, you have to buy a 1/4" to RCA adapter and then run XLR to 1/4" to RCA adapter.
