Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

Hey I just need to know if there are any pedals that sound good through PA systems, I play at church and I just need an OD pedal to fill out the sound on the more upbeat stuff. Right now they have a digital wah pedal thats used for distortion and sounds like crap, I need something medium/low distortion/OD that will sound full and rich through a really big PA system. Thanks O ya, maybe one of johns modded ds1s would work?

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

Some of the new Digitech pedals have two outs, one with cabinet emulation so it can be used direct to PA.

Otherwise, it'll sound like sh*t.

Honstly, direct to PA is what you're after, check out a Line 6 POD. You'll get better sound quality, and more usuable sounds.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

For once I'll agree on the POD. Most overdrive and distortion pedals work with your amp, but if you're going direct to PA you want something like the Line6 Pod.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

In addition to PODs, you might want to try some of the Tech 21 Sansamp stuff, like a GT-2 or even the rackmount. These are analog amp modelers, and some people like them better than digital modelers. Good luck!

Personally though, I'd just change my playing style.... there's nothing wrong with playing an entire set on clean.

If money is an issue, Go for the Behringer V-Amp. Cheaper than the POD... especially if you find one used.

I wish my Church was cool enough to let me play guitar... then I might actually go...

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

The main point is that it sounds like what you need is a cabinet/miked cabinet simulator of some type, as anything direct signal thru a PA will sound like crap. Many of the pODs and other multi effect/tone shaping/preamp things will have a cabinet simulator in them. That's would appear to be the main point, as an aside if you a just looking for a distortion pedal *with* a cabinet simulator for direct recording/playing ...Digitech has some in the X line, I don't know how they sound, but they are pretty affordable, worth looking into to if you don't want to go the POD route, or such. Plus I the Digitech has two outputs, so you can stillrun your regular sound into your amp, and the emualtion sound into the PA. Check their site to be sure though, if the idea interests you.

I do play mostly clean but my youth leader/singer/acoustic likes distortion on certain parts of certain songs, he doesn't care either way but he prefers it. So a POD would work? I've been wanting to get one of those to record with for a while... My friend plays drums at his church and his church just recently bought 3 brand new POD XTs for their guitar players to use.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

You could look at a Hughes & Kettner Tubeman as well, good for recording plus a 'Red-Box' speaker simulator for direct into board stuff.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

I'd prefer a POD or possibly the emulated output of a Multi unit like an ME50 or GT6.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

the simplest most hassle free route is the POD or V amp. Behringer make a floor version of the V amp now, or you could look into the Vox tonelab floorboard. Thats great from what i have heard.

Re: Need a distortion pedal thats good thru PAs

Yeah, most of those Boss floorboards, Line 6 amp model stompbox, Yamaha, or Johnson would do the trick. An analog pedal will sound like a buzzsaw.
If you got the money, go for the Vox Floorboard or POD Pro with footcontroller.
