Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Running the Jet City at Church has a really good gain side and have a decent clean but need a solid inexpensive and quiet OD that will give me some chimy but smooth light to medium crunch. Thinking a TS variant maybe some thing like a Sparkle drive but haven't run a gain pedal in years so not up to speed on what is out there now.
Using a Keeler Push right now and it REALLY sounds good as a slight solo boost to fatten things up with my Boogies but is not getting me where I need to go with the Jet City. Just too warm and smooth for what I am looking for with this rig.
What I need is some thing that will help me cover these edgie tones like here on this Luke Wood tune. Have the high gain and lush cleans covered but need to be able to get this kind of clean light to med crunch with my set up.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

This was yesterday running the Keeley and the Jet City camera stad broke so had to lay it on it's side sorry bout the video.. Tones were ok but need a little less fat a little more cut chime and transparency.
Again thinking TS variant would get me there but which one? Any suggestions guys?

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

I don’t equate Tube Screamer and Chimey. I like the Wampler Thirty Something. It’s an overdrive intended to sound like the Vox tone. Something like a Timmy can do pretty clear and chimey overdrive as well. The Timmy is affordable too.

I don't equate TS with chimey either. Too smooth for that.

Just because I'm cheap and easy to impress, I'll say a good ol' Boss Blues Driver should do it. Or a Joyo Sweet Baby. Both are very open sounding and excel at low-gain, edgy crisp tones. I love them.

EDIT: What about a EHX Soul Food? That thing can do fat gainy tones as well as sparkly cleans with a hint of breakup all day long. Wonderful pedal IMO.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

The only TS-type pedal that can get chimey is the 805. Something more balanced sounding, like the Forza can do it, but the EQ isn't middy like a TS pedal- it is more open.

Had a couple BD-2's is similar to what I have in the tones from the Push and not what I was looking for. Will check out the Sweet Baby and was thinking about the Soul Food will check it out further thanks.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

A cheaper option to the Thirty Something is the Catalinbread Galileo, but I think the Naga Viper or another treble booster would also work

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

May go with a trusty old TS variant. Been listening to clips and think I kinda want that smooth compression with clarity you only seem to get with a Tube Screamer. Last one I owned was a TS-7 with the locking knobs. Have a particular tone I need with this one.
Thanks guys for the advice here as has been a long while since I have looked for an OD of any kind. It was hearing a couple of back to back Soul Food TS shootouts that showed me what I needed.

I would lean Klon-type over TS-type. The Wampler Tumnus would get you there (I prefer it over Soul Food). All that said, for my rig, the Build Your Own Clone Green Pony would be my choice - it’s a Maxon OD-820 clone with various mods (EQ and clipping) on switches.

If you’re not into building, you can usually get prebuilt on Reverb.

Agreed, when I think chimey -I don't think TS -I think transparent Overdrives and Class A circuts like Vox amps,

I'd agree on the 805. But if you want something even more flexible, look at the Seafoam Trident. It has volume and gain controls independent to bass, middle, and treble; all of which have a switch to choose the exact frequency range that you want. It's pretty cool because if you dial it in correctly, you can have an overdriven bridge tone and switch over to the neck pickup for a completely clean tone with no volume loss.

It's a pretty cool unit.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Another vote for a Klone. Soul Food might do it for you. If not, there are next-level products like the J. Rockett Archer Ikon and the Wampler Tumnus. If that doesn’t do it, Tumnus comes in a Deluxe version with more candy. And of course, there are original Klon pedals out there, at collector prices.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

I just built a BYOC Silver Pony, which is a 1:1 Klone. Great sound, but very different from most TS-type pedals. I use mine as a dirt box into a clean amp.

Cool, I'm basically combining that circuit in the same box as a TS with the ability to switch in who's feeding who. a Klon Screamer if you will.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Found an old tone loc Ibanez TS7 on ebay. In the end I have an amp that can do the edgy break up and let me roll the volume back to clean up if needed + the Push what I needed was more the compression and smooth clearer cleaner crunch of a Tube Sceamer not a regular OD. Been a while since I have used a pedal so was not clear on what would get me where I needed to go. Had a TS7 at one point knew were it would take me so after going through a bunch of clips listening to how different pedals responded just grabbed another TS7. Really liked the TS7 I had and because they are a little funky looking and not the desirable green 808 they are cheap so--.
Thanks for all the responses guys helped a bunch.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

So many options are available nowadays that it can be easy to overlook the classics.
There really is nothing quite like a Tube Screamer pushing a slightly overdriven amp.
It's what they were made for, and why the TS became an instant hit.
They remain legendary for good reason.

Was why I dropped this out here. Been a long time since I have used a pedal for dirt so was not up to speed on what was current. Started listening to on line clips and knew what i was looking for tone wis. Kept going back to the old Tube Screamers and my ear liked what I heard. Was really looking for more compression and smoothness with clarity in the end than I was articulating at first.
i owned a TS-7 for quite a while and thought it was one of the best sounding real Tube Screamers I had heard and played. Because it is in that funky looking tone loc pedal case it's really reasonable price wise to buy so grabbed one off ebay. Should be here by the end of the week so will yell when I get it. Have a good clean tone and a really good hot high gain tone with the little Jet City head but needed an in between gear. Have to have a clear clean edgier slightly compressed singing crunch tone for some of the stuff I play regularly like this.
I am hoping this will get me there. Have the Keeler Push but it's a little to dark and gainy for what i am trying to do here. The Keeler is going on the board I use for my 2 Boogies to be used exclusively as a solo boost to thicken up my solos and make them pop.

The answer is "dirt" simple: Crowther Hotcake No other OD pedal chimes like the Hotcake.
