Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

I like and still use my TS7. It is my favorite of the true TS pedals. One thing to look for is the finicky switch. It is a tiny electronic surface-mount thing, and is usually the first thing on the pedal to fail.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

i still like timmy the best in that video. between the pre-drive bass control and post-drive treble control there are tons of musical tones. not to mention the clipping switch if you need a more liquid/compressed tone

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Unless you're seeking a "Chimy OD" then there is no contest, the Hotcake wins hands down. FWIW, I have both the Timmy and Hotcake on my touring pedalboard and consider them both indispensible.

Yep, all my ToneLok 7 series pedals except one (that I hardly used) had a failing switch. Bummer, because they really are great sounding pedals. The DE-7 delay goes for a ton now because everyone realized what an awesome delay it is.

Chimey overdrive? Get a nice compressor.

I always thought the TS-7 was a great sounding pedal. Too bad about that switch; I just never felt I could rely on it.

Need a good chimy OD pedal.

FWIW I have a soundtank TS (10?) and it had a dodgy switch - I came across this thread:

https://www.jemsite.com/forums/f21/fix-dodgey-footswitch-soundtank-pedals-131744.html

Which, basically, suggested the issue wasn’t mechanical (broken switch) but electrical (cap value). I did the mod and my TS Soundtank is back to working as per spec.

I don’t know if this is a similar issue with the TS7, but it may be - either way, I just put an offer in on a TS7 and, if I get the unit, I’ll see if the mod works there.

Stay tuned.

I know there are people that either rehouse it with a better switch, or just mount a big ol switch on top of the pedal. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

my guess is rehousing or adding a switch would cost as much as the ts7

I wasn’t into doing that, so I did a mini screamer shootout at my favorite store. I left with a Maxon OD-9.

Re: Need a good chimy OD pedal.

Got the TS-7 on Friday and was able to run it this morning. Was blown away how good it sounds with the little Jet City!! MUCH better than it sounded through my Boogey DC-5 and the Carvin X50 clean channels . This combo really clicked so am really happy with this one.
Just clear clean smooth and warm with the gain at about 9 o clock or so on the TS-7 through the clean side of the Jet City and was exactly the tone I was shooting for here.
Thanks guys for all the input and suggestions you made me look and listen to what was out there and really helped me make the right choice here!!
The Keeler Push I had been using will go to my board for the Boogies to be used exclusively as a solo boost now. Was a little too thick and dark with the Jet City as a stand alone OD but is fantastic for thickening and warming up the solo tones a bit with my pair of Boogies.
