Need a good distortion/fuzz pedal!

Hi guys I am after a good distortion pedal

1) That COLOURS the sound of your amp
2) Is NOT a clean transparent overdrive boost (had enough of those)
3) Is not too pricey
4) Is pretty versatile (like from clean to mean) in a turn of a knob.

I already own a Marshall Guvnor 2 which is a very nice pedal, very smooth and pristine but I am after something that sounds a bit different, maybe more raw and that cuts through with lots of midrange and is thick and crunchy (like the darkness) for solos. The amps I run it straight thru are a Vox Pathfinder 15R clean and click in the pedal for distortion, and also various 50w tube amps for stage work. What do you guys suggest?

I would recomend a Boss DS-1 that has been modded by Stratdeluxer97 right here on the forum. I belive he is sell one in the trading post

I was just playing mine through my POD set to a mildly overdriven amp model, and that thing grinds! Not sure that's what John had in mind when he tweaked the mod, but it works for me :D

Re: Need a good distortion/fuzz pedal!

Get a used DS-1 off Ebay and have forums member Stratdeluxer(John Spina) mod it. You`ll get the best bang for the buck with that pedal IMO . Now if you wanted to spend a few bucks the Tonebone Hot British Distortion is AWESOME!!!! but it`s a little pricey!

Damnit I don't wanna be a bandwagon guy but I gotta go along with everyone else. If John was a woman... we'll I wouldn't marry him, but I bet I'd stare at his ass as he walked by.

Send him a DS-1, or even an OS-2 if you like, he recently unveiled that mod to the forums.

My wife might get jealous of you Joe...... :)

The proco rat is exactly what i was thinking, i neva really liked the idea of boss overdrive /distortion pedals cause i always though they were cheap sounding and kind of like thos old 80s effects units. But if a modded ds1 is good could you describe what a modded one sounds like? Is it a lot differnt to the stock.
