Need a good noise gate

Anybody know of a good noisegate that doesn't kill tone, just noise? I tried out a dbx 563x Silencer.. and while it certinaly killed almost all of the noise, it seemed to squash my signal a bit (or is that just inherent of noise gates?)

Also, I'm using the noisegate in the FX Loop.. after some experimenting, I found that the ambient noise was (appearantly) coming from the preamp section of the amp.

Any of the HUSH Rack Models. I use the HUSH II, but the HUSH Super C is also wonderful. The HUSH Rack units will not suck your tone. Also, the HUSH units are the only one's I've found that don't "cut off " the ends of a Delay. Go with a HUSH RACK unit, not the HUSH Pedal. I've heard the Pedal WILL suck some tone.

I just gota BOSS NS-2, works great. I can tell it takes just a little of the sustain, but not enough to make a difference.

Yep, I use the NS-2 and it works fine. I also don't notice any loss of tone like on some boss pedals. I believe you can use it in the effects loop of your amp i.e. it works at line level - but I haven't tried it. Anyone here who has?

haven't tried it set that way but my ns-2 works extremely well. would recommend to anybody that needed to kill noise

I agree with 59Paul. I have had a HUSH Super C Rack mount for 10 years and the gate has the most natural and transparent sound (actually no sound at all - he he).

I've used an MXR for many years. I can't tell any difference with it in the chain except for the lack of noise.

Re: Need a good noise gate

Do you get better results running it to the input or the effects loop ?

I would recommend the HUSH over the Boss POS. The NS-2 sounds ok in front of an amp, but as soon as you place it in your loop (where it needs to be) it will procede to suck the life out of your tone. The HUSH is entirely transparent unless you set the downward expansion too high. In the loop of my 2555 I have the Super C set to +4db, with HUSH knob at about 11 o'clock and the Gate knob at about 1 o'clock.
