Need a little advice

I'm getting a custom guitar from Warmoth soon but I have no clue on how to put a guitar together. I live in MA and I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I can have it assembled.

Re: Need a little advice

Where in MA are you I am in Southern NH and dont mind giving you a hand. What type of build are we talking about?

Re: Need a little advice

And are you talking bare wood parts, or are they pre-finished? Finishing becomes by far the biggest part of the equation.

Srsly? You might be doing it wrong... Messed around with refinishing some furniture for mum, and it was suuuuper easy... The only hitch is stripping off any crap that might be on it, which just doesnt apply to unfinished bare wood.

Re: Need a little advice

I live in Worcester and the parts are prefinished. I got the Star body shape with the Jackson style neck and headstock.

You need a drill and screwdrivers. A soldering iron, pots, caps, output jack. Tuners. Pups. You can have a killer guitar in about an hour. Do it yourself. It's like being there and assisting in the birth of your child.

haha yeah but less bloody

Re: Need a little advice

If assembling a guitar is less bloody than childbirth, you're doing something wrong.

You got about 24 screws to put a Warmoth together. If your screwdrivers are as bloody as cutting the cord, please just buy strings when you need them.

I think if you go searching around on youtube, you'll find some fairly detailed vids on assembling a partscaster.

Not bleeding on your guitar isn't very metal.

My heart bleeds 24/7. Why do I have a green Country Gent thats dark brown? I guess I beat on the brat too long.. lol

Re: Need a little advice

Assembling is quite easy. The frets will need to be dressed, and you shouldn't be trying that on your own... I live in southern ct. There's a bunch of guys here who can do it.

Re: Need a little advice

I live about 40 minutes from you outside of Springfield. I agree with the others about doing it yourself, but if you don't want to do it I have the place for you. It's a bit of a drive for you, but well worth it. The place is in Easthampton center. It is called the Luthiers co-op. They do amazing work. They have worked on my guitars, and many of my friends. Take the Mass pike to RT91 north (exit 4). Easthampton is only a few exits north of the pike. You will find it. It's a cool place. They repair, sell amps & instruments, plus they have live music. Well worth the trip. Good luck.

Re: Need a little advice

The tricky bit you are guaranteed to have to deal with is the nut, if you want lowest possible action.

One bit you might or might not have to deal with is a fret level, depending on how Warmoth put them in. Might go one way or another.

What will happen on your first build is that you miss random things, especially screws.

Are you doing the soldering yourself?
