Need a new cheap guitar

i had to sell my LP Studio and now I dont have a guitar - I'm on a serious budget and I need a guitar. I've been considering the Schecter PT or the Eastwood Monolith. Both will have to be ordered site unseen. What is the general opinion of Schecter vs Eastwood? Any suggestions for a good guitar in the $500 range? I know what ever I get wont be great, but I want it to at least be a good bang for the buck. No Epiphones please. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

I think Schecters are great guitars. They place nice, they sound nice. I would say they are top-notch budget guitars.

I like Eastwood too, but Schecters are some stand-up guitars.

Any ESP/LTD model with a number of 400 or above. The mid-price examples of the EC series are made in the same Indonesian factory as the Schecter.

EDIT: Didn't fully read your post.
Considering your mandatory buying scenario, I'll add a vote for a PRS SE too.

If it has to be new, I second (or however many it's up to by now) the PRS SE. Great guitar for the money. If you just want a new-to-you guitar and are on a $500 budget, though, I'd hit up places like Craigslist and Ebay, never know what you can land on there sometimes.

I will also vote PRS SE, I love them. I'm a big fan of the Custom Semi Hollow, I love the natural finish and it sounds great.

I was really close to trading my awesome Fender for one, but I came to my senses. Financially, that would have been a dumb idea.

Any thoughts on a standard Strat? I like the new one's Fender's putting out, the cool 70's logo on the headstock is a plus. They go for exactly 500 on Musician's Friend.

If you went for an Agile you'd definitely have some money left over for some sweet pups too. I've never played one but I've only heard good things.

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

When looking @ cheap axes, play as many as you can without looking at the headstock. New and used, some guitars out there can surprise you.

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

find a used C-1 plus with some real Duncans

if you can find a store with an SE and a C-1 play them both
IMO the C-1 is way more versatile

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

1. Jackson Dinky! Come with Duncan pickups already

2. PRS SE are nice too. I have the purple Paul Allender one with the bat inlays. Neck pickup is garbage but nothing a set of Duncans can't fix.

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

Check eBay and Craig's list for a good used Carvin DC-127 hardtail. They are excellent guitars and you can save a whopping load of bucks buying 2nd hand.

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

With some Craigslist scouring, $500 will buy you another Les Paul Studio. Why not just go the used route and get what you want?
