Need a new cheap guitar

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

I went ahead and ordered the Schecter PT after checking out some videos. I played a few SE's and even though they're cool for the price I've never really been a fan of PRS. As for Epiphones, no thank you. The quality control since they moved production to China is just too inconsistent. I bought a worn '66 Wilshire when they came out, and it had a warped neck out of the box. No offense to those that like their Epi's, me personally, I'm done. Anyway, thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll post a review of the Schecter when it gets here.

That's my question too. Used Epi G-400s can be had for great prices and are fantastic guitars for the money.

+1. I've had a lot of Epi's over the years, and have never had problems. I think the quality of the Chinese models is better and more consistent than many of the Koreans. Just about every manufacturer has an occasional lemon.

If it has to be new, I second (or however many it's up to by now) the PRS SE. Great guitar for the money. If you just want a new-to-you guitar and are on a $500 budget, though, I'd hit up places like Craigslist and Ebay, never know what you can land on there sometimes.

This is what I'd recommend also.

Best wishes to you on finding something you really like!

Re: Need a new cheap guitar

Listen to Lucid and get a used Gibson Les Paul or SG.

Otherwise, I'd pretty much always suggest an Epi Les Paul or SG to anyone on a budget. They're great guitars and a great value. When the budget allows, you can add some upgrades like new pups and electronics and they will rival that of a USA Gibson.

Check the used market and you can get one for a really good price.
