Need a new condenser voc. mic

Any suggestions? I'm done with this MXL 990. Nasty low mid hump that is a persistant problem. I'm looking around the 100$ mark, new or used.

$100 really won't buy you much... best you could get for that is an AT3035 used, IMO.

I'd save up more and grab something like an AT4040 - it'll last you way longer and you'll be happier in the long run.

Man, you're selling yourself pretty short if $100 is all you can muster up for a vocal condenser.

Right now that's all I can do with a Splawn on the way and school starting up. I was looking at an AT4040. I'll watch a few on ebay.

Wait.

Save up three bills and look into an AKG C-3000. Great bang for the buck, and it kills onstage, too.

BION, a Behringer dynamic sounds OK for the cash (about $50). Very clean and open; try it and see.

Yeaaaaah... right!?

For $200-300 you can get a Sennheiser 421... great utility mic.

Use it on anything & everything... guitar cabs, male & female vocals, toms, kick drums, sax, all kinds of percussion noisemakers... anything & everything. If you put it up and it sounds "bad" then chances are good it's not the mics fault.

AKG C3000 is bunk... bright & screechy. I'd rather spend money on something else. Unless it's one of the old black C3000's which are basically half of a 414, but transformerless. Those are decent... and were several hundred bucks, many years ago before AKG started implementing cost-cutting tactics...

The AT4047 is a pretty cool mic... most all those 40-series mics are great and not a lot of money. The 4050 is a solid workhorse...

That's the one.
