Need advice on a bass pickup...

My bass player has an Ibanez Roadstar that she really loves to play, but she feels she's missing something in the tone Dept.

As for the exact model, its an Ibanez Roadstar G10, and it has what looks like a P-Bass style pickup with master volume and tone controls.

1st question: Anyone know if regular P-bass pickups will fit this bass or if something special is needed to make it fit?

As for the tone, she likes a lot of thick, deep bottom end, clear and strong mids and somewhat subdued highs. Thick and big but still maintaining clarity. She uses an Ampeg B2R with a 4x10 Ampeg cab as her rig.

Question 2: Given the description above, what kind of SD bass pickup do you think would work best for her?

Re: Need advice on a bass pickup...

Sounds like the Quarter Pounder to me. Granted, I'm no bass player, but my experience with it has been nothing but good, and I think your bassist will find the tone she's looking for with it.

Re: Need advice on a bass pickup...

Actually...My bassist has that exact same bass, and loves it after a pickup swap. Granted; the guy has insane technique and worships Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, John Patitici, and studies at Northridge...

He had it routed out for another J pickup, so he's got an EMG P and an EMG J in there now, and it sounds damned good.

Re: Need advice on a bass pickup...

I agree on the Quarter Pounder. The P-Bass Quarter Pounder is my #1 selling P Bass pickup...my #1 selling Jazz Bass pickup too. I sell at least twice as many QP's as I do the Vintage and Hot models. It's a very throaty but also deep and clear sounding pickup.

Re: Need advice on a bass pickup...

Very cool guys! I was thinking the QP as well but wanted to get second opinions.

The other guys in the band and I are all going to chip in and buy her one as an early Xmas present. :D
