Need an acoustic that plays like an electric

Re: Need an acoustic that plays like an electric

Acoustic guitars are NOT supposed to play like an electric. The action should be higher and you should be playing with a heavier gauge of strings. That said look for a guitar that is similar in shape to your electric. Then go from there.

I'm suprised nobody recommend Taylor.

I was told that Taylors feel close to electrics in terms of playability... Try it out.

Although they are not cheap T5 is the far best acoustic/electric I have ever tried and standard models are cheaper and 614 or 814 series taylors.

I have also tried a Martin which had a great price, neck and body design (thin). I sounded great plugged and unplugged.

I have also tried couple nylon string godins and the neck was very very good. I can not vouch for the steel strings tough

From a purist's point-of-view, you're right. But, if you're an electric guiarist that wants to dabble with an acoustic once-in-a-while, you don't need to follow any rules. Some guys tell me to use thicker strings on my electrics (I use 9's), but it's my fingers and my style of music, and that's the gauge that works for me. For my acoustic, I got 10's (the thinnest I could find). Play what's easy for you, or you probably won't play it at all. You shouldn't have to struggle with an acoustic, or spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get used to it. It's supposed to be fun, not work. You're not going into a career as an acoustic musician.

There's guys that use 8's, and lefties that play with the strings upside down. Most of us can't read music. It all works, so it's all cool. Don't worry about anything except making the best music you can.
