Need best Blues Pedal

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Are we forgetting how many iconic blues sounds were created by limited financial resources?

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

it did mention lively too :D

pedals have their place for sure but if i can get away without using one, i usually like the results better.

oh and jimmie vaughan should not be allowed to take solos on blues songs

Every time the topic of Jimmie Vaughan comes up, I automatically think of Jim Belushi for some reason.

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

The thing to remember about low gain overdrive is just because a knob goes to 10, doesn't mean that's where it needs to be.

Not true. Not at all true. You hit a low gain pedals sweet spot at a different place , with maybe the gain up around 2-3 o'clock.
A high gain pedal often has a similar sweet spot , but of course it isnt low gain no more iof you are at 2-3 o'clock..

BTW- anyone like that Wampler Black '65??

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Get a Timmy and a KoT

There are shootouts bewteen the OCD and the Timmy, and its kind iof a toss up. Thye are similar transparent Booost type pedals. The Timmy is supposed to be better, at least its more expensive, but I like the OCD just fine, and even better in the clips.
Damn I need an OCD again.
Not sure about the KOT. if I am not mistaken, its in the veign of the OCd's and Timmys, but Its on a different level..really expensive and kind of a sacred cow.

I agree with those who say you've got more than enough there to dedicate one of those pedals to a nice low gain blues tone on an amp set to the verge of breakup. If you want something more transparent than the TS types, Lucid's call of the Timmy is a good one. There's just so many takes on the Blues that it's virtually impossible to nail down to one sound. There's the clean Blues from any of the Kings, through to Gary Moore's super saturated sickly 80's Blues, and all points in between. Then there's Yngwie's Blues, where you just play like Yngwie, but over a Blues progression. They are all very different sounds.

Looking at the pedals you have, a good transparent low gainer is probably a useful addition. Timmy.

Cheers............................................ wahwah

He's waiting for someone to tell him to buy a Klon so he has an excuse to spend that much.

Well then, nobody tell him that the Lovepedal Kalamazoo sounds the same for less $. Thats not what its about at all.

I'll wait for the riessue....
I can't help it..my threads are just so darned interesting evreyone keeps bumping them. Ive only done a couple of replies.
If you saw, i do have a transparent Boost on the Board- the GT-Od ( Wylde pedal swtiched rto GT-Od), which you can roll the gain back and push the amp into overdrive. No doubt the MXR is not the best type of this pedal- I've mentined the OCD and Timmy, butits surely passable.

I also mentioned that I added a Low gain Blues Boost pedal- a Marshall Bluesbreaker, and although its not particualrly a transparent boost, its fore sure a
"Blues Pedal".
I'm just kind of taken aback at the fact i was wanting a blues pedal and asking for advice, and all of a sudden everyone thought I had gone overboard, or over my (pedal)board as it were..

Probably its just that it all seems too extravagant I suppose..but you gotta admit its seductive. Theres a cool 1500 bucks worth of pedlage on that board!

The Timmy and OCD sound absolutely NOTHING alike whatsoever.

correct.

timmy is a transparent low gain od. the ocd is a marshally sounding higher gain od. timmy new is $130 so not much different than the ocd. they are both cool just not very similar

Re: Need best Blues Pedal

Unless you have a JTM45/BB type marshall, I think your search is futile. The sweetest most pristine booteek bluesy OD pedal is not going to sound right through a later model Marshall. The amp, tubes, and speakers have far more to do with it than some little box on the floor.

Just buy a tweed or blackface amp if you want that Fendery mild breakup typified by the blues greats of the 50s/60s. If budget is a concern , then a good inexpensive modeller, like the Fender Mustang (surprisingly good for classic Fender tones), or Vibro/Super Champ (not as good, but decent nonetheless)
