Need Danelectro lipstick replacement advice?

I just picked up a Danelectro 12 reissue with 2 lipstick pickups. I had always thought that the Dano's would be bright and jangly while being relatively low output. I haven't checked the resistance on my pickups yet but I'm pretty surprised that they aren't brighter. Any Dano users out there tried the Duncan or Kent Armstrong replacements? If so comments and comparisons most welcome.

You want brighter?

Try lowering the pickups. Mine are pretty bright and low output, but don't twang like a Fender pickup. They have good chime, but have a somewhat boxy, thunky low end.
