Need envelope filter

Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend me a good, but not too expensive envelope filter?

Also, is an envelope filter the same as an auto wah? I did a search for envelope filter and a few sites brought me to auto wah's...

Thanks,

Re: Need envelope filter

check out the Guyatone WR3 wah rocker. yes, those 2 terms are used interchangeably.

Re: Need envelope filter

Auto wah and Envelope filter are used interchangably, but Auto wah can also refer to the Boss style effect that basically uses an LFO to change the fiilter freqency instead of the input dynamics to change it.

In one sense, you can use a wah instead of an envelope filter, but generally you get a different type of expressive quality from a filter than a rocker wah. Also, filters also tend to have more extreme cutoffs, resonances and more adjustability than most wahs. I would recommend the Tonefactor Analog Filter as a simple one, and the range of EHX Q pedals for more options. The Digitech Synth Wah is cool for more synthy type sounds, and the latest Boss AW-3 is interesting, but I think those two aren't the best for real funky filter stuff. Also the Alesis Philtre is incredibly versatile, but it's OOP so you need to look on ebay.

I'm very content with my Maxon AF-9. :) But the WR-3 mentioned is both cheap and has received good words..

Check out the 442 Analogue Filter unit from Tonefactor.com. It used to be in their custom shop line, but will soon be available in their new Mojo Hand line. The quality of their stuff is topnotch and the prices are reasonable.

Re: Need envelope filter

I just Scored a Line 6 Otto Filter off ebay for $40 used!! It does the Autowah thing good.(i.e.) Theme from shaft and the EH Mutron Filter thing (i.e.) Jerry Garcia well. It also does a talk Box emulation. (Not spot on,But close enough for Rock N' Roll) :D
