need good reverb, help please

I’m not sure about the OP but I’m getting a Silver Lake.
And I blame @mincer[emoji35]

Re: need good reverb, help please

I had a holy grail for about 10 minutes. I found that it was just way too much reverb no matter the setting.

?

I have the original steel box model and the knob goes all the way to 0 reverb in signal. Usually keep Rate of mine around 9 to 10 o'clock position. 9 and below it does that "unnoticeable effect" thing that works fine with reverb.

Around 12 and higher I find it pretty unusable. It's sort of EHX thing to offer range for player to go completely unsensible and overboard with the effects.

I had bought the one with plate reverb specifically for that sound. I just didn’t gel with it.

Good to know. I have never tried the plate mode Holy Grail.

I currrently have it gated at Hall mode, which has plenty of tail and space in it. Works really well with gate for anything. Normally I usually just use Spring for more subtlety.

Re: need good reverb, help please

Added up high, low and mid....assumed would end up trying at least four...conclusion is the best deal is just to by a Princeton Reverb.
Thank you one and all for your thoughtful and informative posts!!!!

Re: need good reverb, help please

THANK YOU dystrust Bought a Boss RV-3 on craigslist for $60 and got my Princeton Reverb sound and saved about 800 bucks. Took a couple of hours to figure it out....the **** thing has a bunch of knobs and **** you have to adjust to find what you want but in the end it was there!!!

Re: need good reverb, help please

So I was looking at reverb pedals when you asked
Then I found that the tone I have been looking for for several years I'd the reverb into distortion

You will still need a princeton at some point, I have a fender supersonic which many would consider to be "more amp" and I still need a princeton reverb.
But congrats on the rv-3! Reverb is good with a few controls, having only one reverb knob such as on an amp can be somewhat limiting.

Re: need good reverb, help please

I have a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe clone...same 12W 2 6V6 cofig as a Princeton...Alnico 12" speaker....just needed a dash a reverb...IMO this is better than any Princeton Reverb

Re: need good reverb, help please

I use a 5e3 for a lot of gigs and i have been using various reverb equipped fender tube amps for decades.
I can't seem to get a reverb sound i like using the 5e3 and pedals (maybe I've been spoiled by my other amps). In the end I've given up, but it does sound pretty great with some rockabilly slapback.

Re: need good reverb, help please

Buddy has the Princeton...have to A/B and see...but never was much into reverb so think the pedal will probably do me.

Re: need good reverb, help please

Well...in the end the pedal path thru a 5E3 didn't work...ordered a Princeton Reverb today...

Re: need good reverb, help please

i have a 5e3 and have always struggled to get reverb to sound great with it. i know im spoiled since i have a stand alone fender unit as well as a deluxe reverb but the 5e3 is such a dynamic thing that no matter what i do, it never seems right and always takes something away. i like it best with guitar-cable-amp.

Re: need good reverb, help please

none of my amps have reverb...played through a Princeton Reverb 65 reissue this weekend and hooked on reverb...any suggestions appreciated.

I researched this a while back and the Catlinbread Topanga was consistently rated high and so was the Subdecay. That said I found a Marshall RF-1 dirt cheap here in town I picked up that I'm very happy with. What you don't want, probably even if you were paid to use it, is the Danelectro Corned Beef.
